Central precocious puberty (CPP) is a rare disease of poorly understood etiology. The cause is mostly idiopathic. However, congenital and acquired structural changes in the central nervous system are also involved. ⋯ Proper diagnosis and treatment make it possible to avoid a number of complications of untreated CPP. There are only a few studies analyzing the prevalence and risk factors for the disease. The aim of this paper is to discuss the current causes of CPP with particular consideration of neurological aspects.

Aortic stenosis (AS) is considered severe when the aortic valve area (AVA) is < 1.0 cm2 and the mean aortic valve gradient (mAVG) exceeds 40 mm Hg. Since many patients with AVA < 1.0 cm2 do not manifest an mAVG > 40 mm Hg, we sought to determine the AVA at which mAVG tends to exceed 40 mm Hg in a sample of subjects with varied transvalvular flow rates. ⋯ Subjects with AVA of 0.8 and 0.9 cm2 rarely had mAVG > 40 mm Hg, even when the transvalvular flow rate was normal. Using current guidelines, it is not clear if such cases should be classified as severe.

Atherosclerosis has become a worldwide medical burden. Our previous studies have shown that artemisinin (ART) had the capability to reduce atherosclerosis. Emerging evidence indicates that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in the development of atherosclerosis. However, whether lncRNAs might participate in the mechanism through which artemisinin mitigates atherosclerosis has not been reported. ⋯ These findings indicated the possible mechanism and therapeutic role of lncRNAs in artemisinin treatment of atherosclerosis and provided a theoretical basis for the future application of artemisinin in patients with atherosclerosis.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) functioning as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) play critical roles in tumour progression. However, prognosis-related ceRNA networks in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) have not been well characterised. ⋯ This ceRNA network contributes to understanding the pathogenesis of LUAD. Furthermore, the molecules in the network are valuable predictive factors for LUAD prognosis as well as potential therapeutic biomarkers.

Investigating how circular RNAs (circRNAs) function during tumorigenesis may help uncover novel diagnostic markers for cancer treatment. The oncogenic role of circ_001621 has been verified in osteosarcoma, but its role in lung cancer has yet to be reported. This research is the first to investigate the circ_001621 expression and regulatory mechanism in lung cancer. ⋯ The circ_001621/miR-199a-3p/GREM1 axis exhibits an association with the development of lung cancer, suggesting its potential as a future therapeutic target for the disease.
