For years, there has been an increase in the number of cases of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients. Renal dysfunction can be caused by direct effects of HIV on the kidneys but also of applied combined antiretroviral therapy (cART). Therefore there is a need of renal function diagnosis to monitor the development of kidney disturbances. In this study the urinary levels of selected low molecular weight proteins (LMWP) in HIV-infected patients were measured and related to current CD4+ T lymphocyte (LT CD4+) count, the glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) value and the applied cART. ⋯ This research shows that the analyzed LMWP parameters are useful in the assessment of kidney damage in HIV patients during cART, especially NPT, NGAL and GST-π. However, future studies should be conducted on larger groups.

We investigated the disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) of glaucoma. ⋯ Although the global burden of glaucoma has decreased, the burden remain high in regions with low SDI values and in sub-Saharan Africa.

To explore the epidemiological characteristics of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) in Guangxi Province of China through a large sample survey of more than 50 million aboriginal aboriginal population. ⋯ The AS person-years incidence rate was increasing in Guangxi province of China from 2014 to 2020, which had obvious gender and regional differences, showing the characteristics of local area aggregation.

This study aims to explore the effects of microRNA-1286 (miR-1286) on the development of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) via the aerobic glycolysis pathway by targeting pyruvate kinase muscle isozyme M2 (PKM2). ⋯ These data show that miR-1286 inhibits lung cancer proliferation via aerobic glycolysis by targeting PKM2, which suggests that the functions of miR-1286 in NSCLC may play a key role in tumor progression and that miR-1286 can be a promising predictive biomarker and potential therapeutic target for NSCLC.

The quality and quantity of bone at the interface of an implant system are determining factors in the implant's stability. Alternative agents have been studied to augment implants and bone defects, including bone-conductive and bone-inducing agents. By modifying implant surface coatings on the nanoscale, one can enhance osseointegration by stimulating bone cell adhesion, bone matrix formation, and mineralization. ⋯ Inducing the differentiation of cells or accelerating bone regeneration is possible with the plant extract. Coating these extracts on implant devices can improve cell attachment, differentiation, and proliferation. This review article discusses the role of herbal materials in bone regeneration through dental implants.
