Recent studies have proved the diverse roles of miRs in different cancer-related processes. This study was undertaken to determine the therapeutic implications of miR-325-3p in breast cancer. ⋯ Taken together, the evidence shows that miR-325 acts as a tumor suppressor in breast cancer and may be used in the treatment of breast cancer.

Radical rectal cancer resection can lead to a long-term bowel function impairment known as low anterior resection syndrome (LARS). It remains unclear how to determine which patients are at a higher risk of developing LARS post-surgery. The POLARS tool was designed to predict the onset and severity of LARS in rectal cancer patients after surgery. The study aimed to assess the accuracy of POLARS in predicting the onset of LARS. ⋯ POLARS did not prove to be accurate in predicting the risk and severity of LARS in these patients, although the average numbers appear promising. Further evaluation of the POLARS tool using a larger cohort is needed.

The primary goal of psoriasis treatment is to reduce the inflammatory response and associated complications. In severe cases of psoriasis that are resistant to local treatment (e.g., keratolytic preparations) and at least two types of general treatment methods (e.g., retinoids and cyclosporine A), biological therapy is used. This study aimed to assess the systemic effects of adalimumab at a given stage of treatment in patients with psoriatic arthritis and evaluate how the drug can improve the clinical condition of the patients. ⋯ We found that adalimumab affects apoptosis, which is crucial in the development and course of psoriasis. The differential gene expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of patients with psoriatic arthritis indicated the potential systemic effects of adalimumab therapy. The analyses of dermatological (the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index, body surface area and Dermatology Life Quality Index) and inflammatory (Biernacki's reaction) parameters revealed the effectiveness of the therapy.

The aim of this study is to investigate the role of genetic variation and DNA methylation of PEAR1 rs12041331 in high on-treatment platelet reactivity (HPR) and recurrent ischemic stroke (RIS). ⋯ The PEAR1 rs12041331 genetic polymorphism and DNA methylation may be among the genetic factors affecting HPR. The correlation between PEAR1 and RIS needs to be studied further.

The placental thickness (PTh) is an ultrasonographic measurement commonly used to assess the placenta. The study aimed to determine selected factors influencing PTh in 2D prenatal ultrasonographic examination. It might have a special value in difficult cases for interpretation when PTh is above or below the reference values. ⋯ Our observations suggest that maternal weight correlated more strongly with PTh than maternal BMI. For PTh evaluation, it is important to pay attention to the placental implantation site - the posterior placenta was thicker than the anterior placenta. Moreover, PTh variability remains largely unknown; therefore, further research in this field is needed.
