A urinary assay for mutation and methylation biomarkers in the diagnosis and recurrence prediction of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer patients.
Currently, the clinical strategy for diagnosis of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) such as cystoscopy and cytology are invasive and/or with limited accuracy. OncoUrine, a urinary assay for mutation and methylation biomarkers, have showed a high accuracy in the detection of upper tract urinary carcinoma (UTUC) patients with hematuria. The aim of this study is to evaluate the performance of OncoUrine in diagnosis of NMIBC patients. ⋯ OncoUrine showed potential value to reduce the frequency of unnecessary cystoscopy and the healthcare cost of bladder cancer patients. Patients with positive test results represented a population who were at high risk of recurrence and thus should be subject to frequent surveillance to ensure timely detection of any potential recurrence. This study has been registered in ClinicalTrials.gov with the number NCT04994197 posted on August 2021.

Larval therapy vs conventional silver dressings for full-thickness burns: a randomized controlled trial.
This is the first clinical trial to investigate the effectiveness of maggot debridement therapy (MDT) for full-thickness burn injuries in comparison to conventional silver dressings. ⋯ Our findings revealed that MDT has a favorable superiority over conventional regimen for the treatment of grade-III burns, and thus further clinical trials with larger sample size are warranted to confirm these results.

Bone marrow (BM) transplantation is a life-saving therapy for hematological diseases, and the BM harbors also highly useful (progenitor) cell types for novel cell therapies manufacture. Yet, the BM collection technique is not standardized. ⋯ We propose to consider small volume BM aspiration as standard technique for BM collection.

Evidencing general acceptability of open-label placebo use for tackling overtreatment in primary care: a mixed methods study.
Overtreatment poses a challenge to healthcare systems due to harmful consequences of avoidable side-effects and costs. This study presents the first account for examining the feasibility of placebo use for reducing overtreatment in primary care, including whether public attitudes support the use of different placebo types in place of inappropriate prescriptions of antibiotics, antidepressants, or analgesics. ⋯ Findings from PPI and three studies indicate general support for combatting overprescribing in primary care through clinical placebo use. This is an indicator for wider UK public support for a novel, behavioural strategy to target a long-standing healthcare challenge. General acceptability appears to be highest for the use of open-label + impure placebos in the context of antibiotic overprescribing.

Patient-reported reactogenicity and safety of COVID-19 vaccinations vs. comparator vaccinations: a comparative observational cohort study.
In the course of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, multiple vaccines were developed. Little was known about reactogenicity and safety in comparison to established vaccines, e.g. influenza, pneumococcus, or herpes zoster. Therefore, the present study aimed to compare self-reported side effects in persons vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 with the incidence of side effects in persons receiving one of the established vaccines. ⋯ The rate of adverse reactions after established vaccinations was roughly comparable to previous studies. Two weeks after vaccination, participants in the SARS-CoV-2 vaccination group reported more local and systemic local reactions than participants in the comparator group. In the further course, however, there were no higher odds of medical consultations in either of the two groups. Thus, altogether, we assume comparable safety.
