Randomized Controlled Trial
Expanding hepatitis C virus test uptake using self-testing among men who have sex with men in China: two parallel randomized controlled trials.
HCV self-testing (HCVST) may be an effective strategy to address low rates of HCV test uptake among men who have sex with men (MSM). We evaluated the effectiveness and cost of providing HCVST to increase HCV test uptake among MSM in China. ⋯ Compared to the standard of care, providing HCVST significantly increased the proportion of MSM testing for HCV in China, and was cheaper per person tested.

The EAT-Lancet Commission proposed a global reference diet with both human health benefits and environmental sustainability in 2019. However, evidence regarding the association of such a diet with the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) is lacking. In addition, whether the genetic risk of AF can modify the effect of diet on AF remains unclear. This study aimed to assess the association of the EAT-Lancet diet with the risk of incident AF and examine the interaction between the EAT-Lancet diet and genetic susceptibility of AF. ⋯ Greater adherence to the EAT-Lancet diet index was significantly associated with a lower risk of incident AF. Such association tended to be stronger in participants with higher genetic risk, though gene-diet interaction was not significant.

Estimating the full health and economic benefits of current and future influenza vaccines.
In the dynamic landscape of respiratory virus vaccines, it is crucial to assess the value of novel mRNA and combination influenza/COVID-19 vaccines in low- and middle-income countries. Modeling studies, such as the one conducted by Waterlow et al., provide vital information about the cost-benefit potential of these products compared to currently licensed vaccines. ⋯ Second, the model does not describe the ancillary benefits of influenza vaccination such as the attenuation of severe disease, prevention of severe non-respiratory outcomes (e.g., myocardial infarctions), or reduced antibiotic use. To obtain a comprehensive understanding of the benefits of influenza vaccines, we must strive to improve the inputs for future modeling-based evaluations.

Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) is an orphan metabolic disease characterized by extremely elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), xanthomas, aortic stenosis, and premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). In addition to LDL-C, studies in experimental models and small clinical populations have suggested that other types of metabolic molecules might also be risk factors responsible for cardiovascular complications in HoFH, but definitive evidence from large-scale human studies is still lacking. Herein, we aimed to comprehensively characterize the metabolic features and risk factors of human HoFH by using metabolic systems strategies. ⋯ Our findings demonstrate that human HoFH is associated with a variety of metabolic abnormalities and is more complex than previously known. Furthermore, this study provides additional metabolic alterations that hold promise as residual risk factors in HoFH population.
