The purpose of this retrospective study was to perform an evaluation of postoperative positional changes of the condyle and mandibular function after bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO) with manual proximal segment positioning. ⋯ The results demonstrated that following BSSO, only insignificant condylar displacement and functional changes occurred within 6 to 12 months postoperatively (Tab. 4, Fig. 2, Ref. 47).

Visual snow is a neurological condition, for which an effective treatment has not been established. The aim of this study was to find whether Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) can improve the state of patients suffering from visual snow. To our knowledge, no other group has tested this method in the treatment of visual snow. ⋯ We detected a trend indicating an improvement of patients' condition based on the data from visual snow diaries. Research on a larger group of patients is required to confirm these findings; however, our study provides a framework to build upon (Tab. 4, Fig. 1, Ref. 22).

IM: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive and fatal neurodegenerative disorder resulting in degeneration of certain neuronal structures in certain brain regions and severe neuronal loss, characterized by a pathological accumulation of senile amyloid plaques (SP) and neurofibrillary tangles (NFT) within the brain. Alzheimer's disease has been associated with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in recent years. ⋯ Genome screening studies in different populations had linked the chromosome 12q24 region to type 2 diabetes. Within this region, there is the PSMD9 gene encoding a transcriptional coactivator of insulin production.

The occurrence of abnormal expression patterns in different types of cancer suggests that micro RNAs (miRNAs) may play an important role in tumorigenesis. The aim of this study was to examine the expression levels of miRNAs known to be associated with the regulation of the expression levels of the APC and K-ras, which are important in the development of colorectal cancer (CRC). ⋯ Increased miR-181d and miR-217 expression levels are associated with increased K-ras expression in the tumor tissues, and the expression of K-ras, which takes part as an oncogene in the CRC development, might be regulated by these miRNAs (Tab. 4, Ref. 33).

The set consisted of 55 patients with DDD with the average age of 51.3 years divided into two groups – the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group consisted of 29 patients with the average age of 56.7 years. The control group consisted of 26 patients with the average age of 45.8 years. ⋯ Degenerative disc disease, as a disease of modern civilization, is treatable. It can be concluded that the theory that degenerative disc changes are irreversible was disproven by the impact of impedance therapy (Tab. 5, Ref. 14)
