Goeckerman therapy (GT) of psoriasis involves dermal application of crude coal tar containing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVR). Little is known about GT influence on DNA epigenetics. ⋯ Our findings indicate that there is a significantly increased genotoxic hazard related to the exposure of PAHs and UV radiation after GT of psoriasis. However, global DNA methylation and p53 gene methylation evade the effect of GT, as they remained unchanged (Tab. 4, Fig. 3, Ref. 50).

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the most important causes of disability and death among young adults and referred to as "silent" epidemic. The most frequent consequences of a TBI are extra-axial hematomas, comprising of acute subdural (SDH) and epidural hematoma (EDH). Most of the factors affecting the mortality have been analyzed in a wide group of TBI. The aim of this study is to identify factors affecting in-hospital mortality in patients undergoing surgery for acute traumatic subdural and epidural hematoma. ⋯ It is interesting that factors such as GSC score, systolic blood pressure, respiratory rate and glycemia were associated with in-hospital mortality rate with highly statistically significant differences (Tab. 3, Fig. 2, Ref. 40).

Horizontally impacted mandibular molars may cause loss of bone, and development of periodontal pockets on the distal root surface of adjacent second molars. The reported patient was confirmed to have aggressive periodontitis. The aim of this presentation is to describe a novel view of a complex treatment approach to promote periodontal healing in a patient. ⋯ This presentation with a 10-year follow-up describes the implementation of one-stage treatment management to promote periodontal healing in a patient via full-mouth periodontal and surgical therapy (Fig. 4, Ref. 33).

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of IGF1 and FGF2 growth factors on the differentiation of human adipose tissue‑derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) into skeletal muscle cells. ⋯ Our results show that IGF1 and FGF2 have a positive contribution to myogenic differentiation of MSCs. They contribute to the studies related to muscle diseases and their treatment by the fact that growth factors support the feature of regeneration capacity and differentiation (Tab. 2, Fig. 7, Ref. 23).

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and its complications are among the most serious cardiovascular diseases and its occurrence has risen sharply in recent years. The aim of this pilot study is to explore the relationship between the methylation of matrix metalloproteinases and tissue inhibitors of the metalloproteinases genes' promoter region, and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) through the detection of the methylation status of MMP2, TIMP2, TIMP1, and MMP9 genes in peripheral blood. ⋯ In our pilot study, we found no association between DNA methylation of gelatinases and their tissue inhibitors, and the development of an abdominal aortic aneurysm (Tab. 2, Fig. 1, Ref. 27).
