Adverse effects (ADRs) of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) represent a public health problem. To decrease the negative effect on the population, an improvement of risk awareness is crucial. We aimed to evaluate the risk perception and the use of NSAIDs in South Dakota in comparison with Slovakia and Greece. ⋯ Public awareness about NSAID risk is dangerously low. Only a third of providers are informing patients about possible risks spontaneously (Tab. 6, Ref. 15) Keywords: non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, risk perception, adverse effects, cardiovascular risk, gastrointestinal risk.

In this study we tried to determine the possible neuroprotective effects of simvastatin in a rat model of Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) with the help of biochemical and histopathological tests. ⋯ According to our biochemical and histopathological findings, simvastatin 10 mg/kg has a positive impact in the spinal cord injury model in rats, regardless of route of application (Tab. 1, Fig. 5, Ref. 26).

The effectiveness of the myo-inositol oxygenase (MIOX) enzyme was investigated in the diagnosis of acute kidney injury (AKI). ⋯ The serum MIOX level increases in the early stages of AKI, however, decreases subsequently. Therefore, the serum MIOX may be a potential promising biomarker in the early diagnosis of AKI (Tab. 5, Fig. 6, Ref. 30).

We investigated the effect of low, medium and high doses of oral vitamin A, on the number of fetal hippocampal neurons. ⋯ Our study demonstrates that vitamin A, beginning from the dosage of 20000 IU/kg, is decreasing the total hippocampal neuron numbers during the critical period of embryonic brain development and that apoptosis may not be the only factor in this outcome (Tab. 1, Fig. 3, Ref. 27).
