The aim of the present study was to investigate the neuroprotective effect of ceftriaxone in a rat brain ischemia/reperfusion injury model. ⋯ These results suggest that ceftriaxone could be beneficial for the prevention of brain ischemia/reperfusion injury caused by acute arterial occlusion through reducing the tissue MDA level (Tab. 2, Fig. 5, Ref. 24).

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of apoptosis on rat skeletal muscle caused by chronic alcohol and statin consumption with modified liquid diet and to elucidate protective effects of betaine supplementation. ⋯ We found that combined consumption of ethanol and statin is capable of triggering apoptotic cell death in rat muscles more than the consumption of only alcohol or only statin. Betaine was able to reduced this muscle cell death induced by alcohol and/or statin consumption (Tab. 4, Fig. 4, Ref. 43).

Nesfatin-1 is an antiiflammatory, antiapoptotic, and anorexigenic peptide that has many roles in cardiomyocyte metabolism and viability. Inflammation plays an important role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the alterations in serum nesfatin-1 levels of the patients undergoing coronary artery bypass operation due to atherosclerotic coronary artery disease. ⋯ This study revealed that serum nesfatin-1 levels increased significantly in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass operation. Nesfatin-1 level may have a role in assessing myocardial perfusion during the follow-up of these patients (Tab. 4, Fig. 4, Ref. 25).

Rationale Use of Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio for early diagnosis and stratification of COVID-19.
Coronavirus disease is caused by a virus that is the cause of a potentially fatal disease worldwide. Coronavirus is a pathogen that primarily affects the human respiratory system. Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) has been named WHO since February 11, 2020. ⋯ In some cases, multiple inflammations have been observed. Treatment with interferon inhalation showed no clinical effect and the condition worsened instead (Tab. 5, Fig. 1, Ref. 18). Keywords: neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, corona virus SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19.
