Impact of proactive low-molecular weight heparin therapy on outcomes in COVID-1.
Low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) may provide beneficial effects on outcomes of COVID-19. We aimed to examine the impact of LMWH treatment on clinical outcomes (duration of hospitalization, admission to intensive care unit, the requirement for mechanical ventilation, and death) of COVID-19 patients with normal D-dimer levels at admission. ⋯ Our results strongly suggest that proactive LMWH therapy improves clinical outcomes in hospitalized COVID-19 patients even with normal D-dimer levels (≤ 0.5 mg/L) (Tab. 3, Fig. 2, Ref. 34).

The most promising strategy for managing COVID-19 pandemic is achieving sufficient vaccination rate worldwide. The question is how many people will be willing to get vaccinated. ⋯ Willingness of population to receive COVID-19 is just at the herd immunity threshold and it is decreasing over time (Tab. 2, Fig. 3, Ref. 110). Keywords: vaccination, survey, COVID-19, pandemic, review.

The global impact of COVID-19 pandemic has gained momentum rapidly. People have little information about SARS-CoV-2 (Coronavirus). Internet has become a frequently used tool to obtain information in recent years, while YouTube is one of the popular sources of information with many videos on its platform. This study aims to identify the topics regarding Coronavirus that people learned about on YouTube. The videos about Coronavirus were also evaluated in terms of the reliability of their source of information. ⋯ It has been determined that the videos about the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19, and those with scientific content have the most reliable source of information on Coronavirus (Tab. 5, Fig. 1, Ref. 35). Vitamin D, which has immunomodulatory effect, can reduce risk of infections and concentrations of pro-inflammatory cytokines. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the levels of vitamin D and severity of COVID-19. ⋯ Adequate levels of vitamin D could suppress inflammation and reduce the severity of COVID-19. Vitamin D supplementation may have an important role in decreasing the impact of the pandemic (Tab. 5, Fig. 2, Ref. 27).

Epithelial cells and macrophages play major roles in modulating the state of inlammatory response regulated by intracellular signaling pathways. The aim of this study was to characterize changes in cell proliferation, apoptosis and inflammation related intracellular signalling pathways MAPKs and NF-κB in Caco-2 epithelial cells and THP-1 macrophage-like monocytes contacted and filter-seperated co-cultures in the presence of LPS stimulation. ⋯ Epithelia - monocytes co-culture stimulated with LPS regulated cell proliferation and inflammation in a contact dependent manner, whereas apoptosis was associated with non-contacted cell culture condition. Thus, co-culture models are important models for explaining the immunopathologies in the mucosal areas (Fig. 5, Ref. 30).
