Anticoagulant treatment approach in patients with COVID-19 is not well studied and not standardized. We aimed to compare the effects of standard prophylactic and pre-emptive therapeutic Low-Molecular-weight Heparin (LMWH) treatment approaches on mortality in patients with COVID-19. ⋯ Among the 336 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 pneumonia, 115 patients, who received LMWH were included in the study. The mean age was 58.6 ± 13.3 and 58 (50.4 %) of the patients were male. Sixty-nine (60 %) of the patients were treated with prophylactic and 46 (40 %) therapeutic LMWH.In-hospital mortality was not different between patients treated therapeutic LMWH and prophylactic LMWH by the multivariate regression analysis (OR=2.187, 95% CI 0.484-9.880, p=0.309) and the propensity score modelling (OR=1.586, 95% CI 0.400-6.289, p=0.512.)CONCLUSION: Clinicians should consider the potential risks and benefits of standard prophylactic and pre-emptive therapeutic LMWH. Therefore, anticoagulant therapy should be individualized in patients with COVID-19 (Tab. 3, Ref. 28).

Although fibronectin has an important role in wound repair, nearly no human studies to date have investigated its condition in ulcerative colitis (UC) histologically. E-cadherin plays a critical role in the repair of normal epithelial tissues. This study aims to find out the condition of these two molecules in UC. ⋯ We suggest that the decrease in E-cadherin, even in the inactive period, might be the cause of why UC is not just a compensatory change in repair of inflammation. The results of staining with fibronectin in UC patients were between normal individuals and SCC patients. Further studies are necessary to confirm our results (Tab. 2, Fig. 6, Ref. 15). Studies assessing the unicentric and prospective comparison of efficacy of cryoballoon pulmonary vein isolation in idiopathic and non-idiopathic atrial fibrillation (AF) patients are missing. The aim of this study was to compare a single procedural outcome in these subgroups of AF patients. ⋯ A single cryoballoon pulmonary vein isolation was more effective in preventing atrial arrhythmias relapses in idiopathic AF patients compared to non-idiopathic AF patients. The best efficacy outcomes were observed in patients with paroxysmal idiopathic AF (Tab. 5, Fig. 2, Ref. 25).

The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of water load test (WLT) on heart rate variability (HRV), blood pressure variability (BPV), hemodynamic parameters and gastric myoelectric activity in gastrointestinal (GI) cancer patients. ⋯ A slight predominance of the sympathetic component was observed in response to WLT, which was reflected by changes in hemodynamic parameters. The response to WLT is a consequence of GI mechanoreception and osmoreception activation and resultant pressure reaction. This effect was disrupted by the neoplastic process within the GI tract, especially in gastric and colon malignancies, but not in rectal cancer (Tab. 2, Fig. 12, Ref. 40). Lumbar spondylolisthesis is a relatively common cause of low back and lower extremity pain. The most common type, degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis (DLS), is a disease that causes stenosis of the spinal canal. Two surgical methods of treatment are widely accepted, namely posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF). ⋯ This research found that both surgical techniques, TLIF and PLIF, are suitable for DLS treatment. The two methods differed in postoperative complications which were less frequent in TLIF. There were no significant differences in the postoperative quality of life (Tab. 5, Ref. 19).
