The AIM of our work is to point out the relationship between insulin resistance and metabolic compensation of diabetes mellitus, as well as to explore the possibilities of improving these parameters by non-drug measures. The rising incidence of insulin resistance associated with many comorbidities, especially due to the increase in obesity and unhealthy lifestyles, is a serious medical problem today. ⋯ Statistical analysis of our data showed a positive correlation between the assessed parameters of insulin resistance and metabolic compensation of diabetes with a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.3156, and a decrease in glycated hemoglobin and insulin resistance after adjustment of dietary and regimen measures in 73.58 % of patients. Based on the above results, it is shown that non-drug measures are able to significantly improve the parameters of metabolic compensation of diabetes mellitus as well as those of insulin resistance (Tab. 4, Fig. 1, Ref. 18) Keywords: insulin resistance, TAG/HDL ratio, diabetes mellitus.

The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of water load test (WLT) on heart rate variability (HRV), blood pressure variability (BPV), hemodynamic parameters and gastric myoelectric activity in gastrointestinal (GI) cancer patients. ⋯ A slight predominance of the sympathetic component was observed in response to WLT, which was reflected by changes in hemodynamic parameters. The response to WLT is a consequence of GI mechanoreception and osmoreception activation and resultant pressure reaction. This effect was disrupted by the neoplastic process within the GI tract, especially in gastric and colon malignancies, but not in rectal cancer (Tab. 2, Fig. 12, Ref. 40). Biomechanical stress plays an essential role in coronary atherosclerosis (CAS), however, inter-relations between mechanical conditions and gene expressions remain unclear. ⋯ MMP1 and PDE2A up-regulations rely on increased WSS in development and risk of CAS, suggesting that their elevation may be potential target for diagnosis and treatment (Fig. 3, Ref. 28).

Asymptomatic atrial fibrillation (AF) detection and pulmonary veins isolation (PVI) outcome prediction remain challenging. Our aim was to study the association between apelin and paroxysmal AF in patients undergoing radiofrequency catheter PVI. ⋯ In patients without a structural heart disease apelin showed a significant specificity and sensitivity for AF prediction and inversely correlated with AF burden (Tab. 3, Fig. 3, Ref. 34).

The aim of this study was to assess the possibility of using the DT56a for the therapy of acute climacteric syndrome in women in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. ⋯ DT56a is a possible alternative for the treatment of acute climacteric syndrome. In the Central European population, the efficacy of a daily dose of 644 mg corresponds with the effects observed in the Mediterranean population (Tab. 2, Fig. 3, Ref. 21).
