Mechanical circulatory support is an established therapy in end-stage heart failure. The EUROMACS registry was created to promote research in these patients. The aim of this report was to present our 12 year experience with the durable mechanical circulatory support devices and compare it with the EUROMACS registry. ⋯ Mechanical circulatory support is a valuable therapeutic option with excellent survival rates, nevertheless it is associated with clinically significant complications rates. The direct comparison between our cohort and the EUROMACS registry showed that early implantation strategy and mini invasive approach may improve survival rates and decrease postoperative complications (Tab. 3, Fig. 3, Ref. 16).

In COVID-19 patients, the determination of the relationship between elevated D-dimer level and prognosis and the determination of thrombosis formation in the early stages of the disease are very important. The aim of this study was to investigate the prognostic role of D-dimer levels based on presentation in patients hospitalized with the diagnosis of COVID-19. ⋯ The study results showed that the D-dimer test was an independent risk factor showing mortality in COVID-19 patients (Tab. 6, Ref. 27). The study aim was to analyse the frequency of polymorphic variants of angiotensinogen gene polymorphism (AGT 704T>C, rs699) in essential arterial hypertension (EAH) patients. ⋯ One-way ANOVA analysis confirmed the AGT (704T>C) gene polymorphism to be associated with systolic and diastolic BP elevation (F=7.80; p < 0.001 and F=4.90; p=0.01, respectively), especially in TT-genotype carriers (p < 0.05), and with body mass index increase, albeit only in women (F=13.94; p < 0.001) (Tab. 4, Fig. 3, Ref. 26). Text in PDF www.elis.sk Keywords: angiotensinogen gene (AGT 704T>C), diabetes mellitus type 2, arterial hypertension, obesity, risk.

Epithelial cells and macrophages play major roles in modulating the state of inlammatory response regulated by intracellular signaling pathways. The aim of this study was to characterize changes in cell proliferation, apoptosis and inflammation related intracellular signalling pathways MAPKs and NF-κB in Caco-2 epithelial cells and THP-1 macrophage-like monocytes contacted and filter-seperated co-cultures in the presence of LPS stimulation. ⋯ Epithelia - monocytes co-culture stimulated with LPS regulated cell proliferation and inflammation in a contact dependent manner, whereas apoptosis was associated with non-contacted cell culture condition. Thus, co-culture models are important models for explaining the immunopathologies in the mucosal areas (Fig. 5, Ref. 30).

It is the SARS-CoV-2 virus, one of the most significant diseases of today's world. Due to the high transmission of this disease, studies are ongoing to discover an inhibitor drug that can stop this disease. In this study, inhibitory drugs used for many diseases were tried to stop the SARS-CoV-2 virus. ⋯ Inhibitory activities of SARS-CoV-2 virus against spike glycoprotein (PDB ID: 6M0J, 6LZG), main protease (PDB ID: 5RGG, 6WTT), and RNA dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) (PDB ID: 6YYT, 7BV2) proteins were compared. Then, docking calculations were supported by calculations by MM-PSBA of the inhibitor with the highest activity. Afterwards, it was compared with FDA approved drugs for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It was found that the Carvedilol molecule was the best against RNA dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) protein of SARS-CoV-2 (Tab. 4, Fig. 9, Ref. 42).
