This study aims to investigate the acute effects of thymoquinone (TQ) which has been suggested to be a cardioprotective agent, on ventricular myocytes. ⋯ The effect of TQ on cardiomyocytes has been demonstrated for the first time. TQ changes AP morphology along with ionic currents and alleviates β-adrenergic response in adult ventricular myocytes. These results indicate that TQ may be considered as a therapeutic agent in cases such as diabetic cardiomyopathy and cardiac hypertrophy, wherein the β-adrenergic system is over-activated (Tab. 2, Fig. 6, Ref. 30).

Sepsis is a systemic infection reaction and intravascular volume therapy plays a crucial role in it's treatment. Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) occurs in the lungs, the most affected organ. This study aimed to investigate the different effects of fluid therapy on ARDS caused by sepsis. ⋯ Our study shows that treatment with hypertonic saline reduces the progression of ARDS in sepsis (Tab. 3, Fig. 4, Ref. 49).

We aimed to evaluate the effects of leptin and nitro-L-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride (L-NAME) on testicular damage and expression of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) types (neuronal, endothelial and inducible NOS) in streptozotocin (STZ) -induced diabetic and non-diabetic rats. ⋯ It can be suggested that leptin and L-NAME partially prevents testicular damage by ameliorating histopathological changes by stimulating and /or supressing three types of NOS expression in diabetic rats. Leptin exhibited its effects by reducing iNOS expression in diabetic rats. This is the first report demonstrating the relationship between leptin and nitric oxide in testicular tissue in STZ-induced diabetic rats (Fig. 3, Ref. 33).

The use of acetaminophen (APAP) is increasing recently, especially with COVID-19 outbreaks. APAP is safe at therapeutic levels, however, an overdose can cause severe liver injury. This study aims to explore possible mechanisms involved in APAP‑induced hepatotoxicity and compare different hepatoprotective agents, namely vitamin E, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and necrostatin-1 (NEC-1). ⋯ Vitamin E, H2S and NEC-1 showed protective effects against APAP-induced hepatotoxicity, thus they may be used as an adjuvant therapy when APAP is indicated for long periods as is the case in COVID-19 patients (Tab. 2, Fig. 2, Ref. 45).
