The association of autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT) with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) has been studied for over 60 years, yet their causal relationship has not been elucidated. Most published papers report a better prognosis of the patients with tumour in the field of thyroiditis. In our work we aimed to find out the differences in the clinical behaviour of PTC depending on the presence of autoimmune inflammation. ⋯ AIT alone does not have a protective effect on the course of PTC, the cause of a better prognosis in the AIT1 subgroup is a different pathomechanism of carcinogenesis, as well as previous endocrinological monitoring and earlier detection of malignancy (Tab. 4, Fig. 2, Ref. 27).

Artificial intelligence (AI) is here to stay. It is not a future anymore, and there are many particular problems in cardiology that are already being solved via machine learning (ML), and many more are to come. ⋯ However, cardiologists who will not be able to use ML algorithms in their clinical practice will be replaced by those who will. Myocardial infarction is a life-threatening complication of the coronary artery disease - the leading cause of premature death worldwide. The severity of this condition is the result of cellular death following the myocardial ischaemia, which occurs via several mechanism including apoptosis. For the research of this condition, animal models are often employed. ⋯ Previous research demonstrated that by experimentally affecting proapoptotic and antiapoptotic signals, it is possible to influence various aspects of myocardial infarction including: infarction size, cardiac remodelling and prognosis of the heart failure. Future research is warranted to fully elucidate the role of this process during myocardial infarction, which will result in refined diagnostic and therapeutic strategies (Tab. 1, Fig. 1, Ref. 21). Enterococcus species account for most of the human enterococcal HAI and multidrug-resistant infections and have become a major threat to modern public health. We examine the rise in the number of vancomycin resistant E. faecium blood stream and urinary tract infections in a COVID-19 department during an epidemiologic outbreak investigation to detect and eliminate nosocomial clusters of the bacteria. ⋯ This study provides the first description of an outbreak caused by vanB-ST117 and vanA-ST17 E. faecium strains among COVID-19 patients in Slovakia. This study can help to raise the awareness about the need for strict adherence to infection control measures and the implementation of rational antimicrobial stewardship as a routine part of COVID-19 management (Tab. 3, Fig. 3, Ref. 27). The purpose of the study was to follow up the cortisol levels in relation to the postoperative pain intensity, its levels after treatment with opiate and non-opiate analgesics, and to monitor the relationship between the blood glucose and cortisol levels. Another goal was to optimize the postoperative analgesia of geriatric patients with the known combinations of analgesics. ⋯ The cortisol levels have not corresponded so much with the assessment of acute postoperative pain as with the stress that was evoked in the patient due to hospitalization and fear of surgery. It is crucial to eliminate as much as possible all the stressors that can affect the cortisol levels and thus the blood glucose levels (Fig. 6, Ref. 25).
