Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM2) can lead to autonomic nervous system dysfunction and heart rate variability (HRV) is often used to assess this system both during rest and during physical exercise. ⋯ There was no difference between the groups in the modulation of rest or in the parasympathetic adjustments of the exercise (Tab. 4, Ref. 32).

There is ongoing research on treatments that promote antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms, which will reduce mortality in sepsis. In this study, we compared the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities of quercetin and ascorbic acid using a sepsis model induced in infant rats. ⋯ The antioxidant activity, which is impaired in sepsis, was increased by both molecules. We observed that these two molecules, which are free of side effects, have a positive influence on the progression of sepsis to severe and fatal sepsis in childhood (Tab. 2, Ref. 38).

We performed this meta-analysis determining the antihypertensive effect of telmisartan versus perindopril in patients with essential hypertension. ⋯ The reduction of DBP is greater treated with telmisartan than perindopril in patients with essential hypertension (Tab. 2, Fig. 4, Ref. 34). Multicenter Study
Risk of genitourinary malignancy in patients that receive anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy.
Haematuria is a common indication for a urology evaluation. In many cases, its cause is not determined unequivocally, but it does not pose any threat to the patient. However, it can represent the first symptom of urinary tract cancer. ⋯ Malignancy risk for patients who received anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy was similar to the risk observed in the general population. Antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapy were not significant risk factors of urological malignancy in patients with haematuria. The results from the present study will be used in a power analysis for an upcoming multicentre study (Tab. 4, Ref. 17). The study presents associations between prevalence of chronic diseases and selected socio-economic (SES) attributes in adult population of Slovakia and analyses the prevalence of chronic diseases in regions of Slovakia. ⋯ The study did not confirm a higher prevalence of chronic diseases in regions with weaker SES in Slovakia. Out of the 4 monitored SES attributes, 3 of them (age, education and lifestyle) had a significant impact on the prevalence of chronic diseases. Household income showed only a minimal association with the prevalence of chronic diseases, but this interdependence was not significant (Tab. 6, Ref. 41).
