Cholinergic neurons, a type of neurons found in central nervous system, play a vital role in muscle movement and activities. Cholinergic neurons degeneration is the main pathological symptom of neurodegenerative diseases. Among a variety of stem cells, iPSCs have emerged as a promising candidate for transplantation to improve the repair of neuronal lesion sites. However, the establishment of an appropriate induction method to yield large numbers of cholinergic neurons has yet to be determined. Here, we studied the differentiation potential of iPSCs to generate cholinergic neurons by developing a new optimized differentiation protocol. ⋯ Our investigation represents a highly efficient protocol for iPSCs differentiation toward cholinergic neurons which could be used for further preclinical transplantation studies (Tab. 1, Fig. 5, Ref. 35). It has been exactly 180 years since the pioneering work of Dr. Carlo Matteucci, professor of physics at the University of Pisa (1842), laid the basis of the method for the registration of biopotentials generated by muscles. In particular, these studies have found practical application in the principal non-invasive method of functional diagnosis of the cardiac muscle - electrocardiography (ECG). ⋯ This research demonstrated a large number of modern innovations devoted to the automation and modification of implementation of this electrophysiological method and the possible ways to implement it in matters of home and individual monitoring of patients. Furthermore, the review examines the socio-economic issues of deploying and administering tele-ECG technologies to follow up on the global principles of digitization of healthcare and on-site diagnostics by emergency medical services (Tab. 2, Fig. 4, Ref. 87). Repair of congenital heart defects involving right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) may require pulmonary valve replacement at time of primary repair or reoperation. This study compares the outcomes of cryopreserved homografts with bovine jugular vein conduits (BJVC) in children < 2 years of age with RVOT reconstruction. ⋯ The performance of homografts and BJVC is comparable in patients ent between the two groups (Tab. 3, Fig. 3, Ref. 16).

There is ongoing research on treatments that promote antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms, which will reduce mortality in sepsis. In this study, we compared the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities of quercetin and ascorbic acid using a sepsis model induced in infant rats. ⋯ The antioxidant activity, which is impaired in sepsis, was increased by both molecules. We observed that these two molecules, which are free of side effects, have a positive influence on the progression of sepsis to severe and fatal sepsis in childhood (Tab. 2, Ref. 38).

The implementation of patient-reported outcome measurements has become a standard component of evaluating the effect of treatment. For spine injuries, an evaluation tool AOSpine Patient Reported Outcome for Spinal Trauma (AOSpine PROST) has been developed. The aim of this study was to translate, interculturally adapt and validate the Slovak version of AOSpine PROST. ⋯ The results indicate that the Slovak version of AOSpine PROST is reliable and valid and can be used in practice (Tab. 2, Ref. 14).
