Our analysis focuses on the advantages of virtual surgical planning (VSP) compared to a conventional treatment method as well as on a wider range of parameters influencing the surgical procedure, postoperative care, morbidity and lastly, the survival rate of these patients. ⋯ Among all the risk factors, administering a higher unfractionated dosage of heparin administered immediately after completing the anastomosis was identified as a significant predictor of postoperative complications. Using VSP in cases of advanced stage head and neck malignancy for salvage surgery is highly recommended. Shorter duration of these comprehensive surgeries in the VSP group leads to a significantly favorable outcome (Tab. 2, Fig. 2, Ref. 19). This work was aimed at analyzing in-hospital, 30-day and 1-year mortality rates, impact of selected cardiovascular factors on mortality of patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) manifested on electrocardiogram (ECG) and treated by the percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) at our cardiac center, comparing the subgroup of non-shock (survivors and deceased) patients after STEMI and evaluating how these patients differ from each other. ⋯ Shock patients differed in terms of mortality in post-PCI TIMI flow, while non-shock patients varied in troponin and NT-proBNP levels. Despite early intervention, certain risk factors might affect the clinical outcome and prognosis of patients with STEMI treated by PCI (Tab. 5, Fig. 1, Ref. 30). Quality of life after cochlear implantation in children in Slovakia.
Cochlear implantation (CI) is the method of choice for treating severe and profound hearing loss in children. ⋯ The total quality of life score did not significantly differ between the group with cochlear implants and the normal‑hearing group. Therefore, the analysis demonstrates that the hearing quality does not seem to negatively influence the quality of life in children with cochlear implants (Tab. 5, Fig. 2, Ref. 9). Cytoreductive surgery and intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemotherapy for malignant peritoneal mesothelioma.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the results of treatment of diffuse malignant peritoneal mesothelioma (DMPM) by cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) at a single center. ⋯ Also under the conditions at our specialized center, CRS-HIPEC is considered as an effective, affordable, and safe therapy with OS, DFS, morbidity, and mortality rates comparable to those reported in the literature (Tab. 5, Fig. 2, Ref. 28). To investigate interfractional motion of the mesorectum and bladder and to assess dosimetric changes using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) during neoadjuvant radiotherapy for locally advanced rectal cancer patients. ⋯ During radiotherapy planning, the mesorectal movement should not be forgotten and PTV margins should be determined accordingly (Tab. 6, Ref. 22). Text in PDF www.elis.sk Keywords: cone-beam computed tomography, rectal cancer, mesorectum, interfractional organ motion, neoadjuvant radiotherapy.
