Transplanted bone marrow stromal cells improve cognitive dysfunction due to aging hypoperfusion in rats.
Aging is an important risk factor for vascular dementia, and D-galactose (D-gal) injection can simulate the pathology of aging. Two-vessel occlusion of common carotid arteries (2VO) is the most popular model for vascular dementia. This study was aimed to investigate the possibility of D-gal injection plus 2VO simulating cognitive impairment of aging vascular dementia; and whether transplanted bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) can improve the cognitive function induced by D-gal injection plus 2VO. ⋯ D-gal plus 2VO induces cognitive dysfunction. The engrafted BMSCs exhibit the beneficial effect on cognitive function via promotion interactively with host brain.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyUse of tailored loading-dose clopidogrel in patients undergoing selected percutaneous coronary intervention based on adenosine diphosphate-mediated platelet aggregation.
Adenosine phosphate-mediated platelet aggregation is a prognostic factor for major adverse cardiac events in patients who have undergone selective percutaneous coronary interventions. This study aimed to assess whether an adjusted loading dose of clopidogrel could more effectively inhibit platelet aggregation in patients undergoing selected percutaneous coronary intervention. ⋯ An adjusted loading dose of clopidogrel could have significant effects on antiplatelet aggregation compared with a rational dose, decreasing 1-year major adverse cardiac events in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions based on adenosine phosphate-mediated platelet aggregation with no increase in bleeding.

ReviewAnalysis of isocitrate dehydrogenase-1/2 gene mutations in gliomas.
To highlight recent researches which may show promise for histomolecular classification and new treatments for gliomas. ⋯ Isocitrate dehydrogenase-1/2 mutations define a specific subtype of gliomas and may have great significance in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of patients with these tumors.

Comparative StudyContrasting treatment and outcomes of septic shock: presentation on hospital floors versus emergency department.
Patients with septic shock have a high mortality. This study used the Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) database to compare characteristics, treatments and outcomes of septic shock patients diagnosed in the emergency department (ED) to patients developing septic shock on hospital floors (HF). ⋯ When compared to HF patients, ED septic shock patients have lower in-hospital mortality, there was less use of MV during the first 24 hours following onset of septic shock and the HF patients required a longer time to achieve target ScvO(2). The need for mechanical ventilation is independently associated with increased mortality.

Analysis of risk factors for valve replacements in 5,128 cases from a single heart center in China.
Numerous studies have developed a "severity score" or "risk index" for short-term mortality associated with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Due to the different distribution of disease types, the number of valve surgeries in the US and Europe is relatively small. Thus, a risk-scoring system for valve surgeries was developed later and used less than that for the CABG surgery. We retrospectively reviewed 5128 cases of heart valve replacement, to quantitatively assess the risk factors for hospital mortality, and establish risk models for the hospital mortality of cardiac valve replacement patients. ⋯ The three risk models can quantitatively assess the hospital mortality risk in the patients treated with cardiac valve replacement.
