As a result of COVID-19, many hospitals underwent a conversion for the care for this disease. ⋯ COVID-19 epidemiological behavior was similar to that described in other studies; however, lethality and mortality are above national average. The analysis of this and of the factors that favored it in our population is pending.

Since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the most affected population group has been that of older people living in long-term care facilities (LTCFs), which has accumulated between 30 and 60 % of total number of deaths in the world. In Mexico, outbreaks have been reported in LTCFs of at least eight states. ⋯ There is evidence of the need to formally develop a National Care System that provides support to those in need of care and their families, and that includes LTCFs. In view of the challenges due to the lack of information and competencies in infection prevention and control at LTCFs, a group of experts, in collaboration with different public institutions, joined efforts with the purpose to update the guidelines in order to allow LTCFs face the pandemic and to contribute to the generation of said National Care System.

Localized neuropathic pain (LNP) is of peripheral origin and is characterized by circumscribed areas of pain with abnormal skin sensitivity or spontaneous symptoms that are characteristic of neuropathic pain, e.g., burning pain. It should be noted that LNP is confined to a specific area no larger than a letter size sheet of paper. LNP accounts for 60 % of neuropathic pain syndromes. ⋯ So far, there are no specific guidelines for the management of LNP; for this reason, guidelines for general neuropathic pain are used. Topical treatments are included as part of second-line strategies in the Canadian Pain Society guidelines. Despite the lack of guidelines, 5 % lidocaine patches and 8 % capsaicin patches have been proven effective in LNP models.

Identification of hepatitis B virus carriers in blood donors is imperative in order to avoid transmission of the disease via blood transfusion. ⋯ The selection of infection markers, as well as the detection methods define the results. Performing two serological and one molecular test is important in order to identify hepatitis B virus carriers and prevent its transmission.
