The main complication associated with acute brain injury is the elevation of intracranial pressure (ICP) and it is associated with high morbidity and mortality. In these patients, multimodal neurological monitoring has emerged as a fundamental tool in the intensive care unit, with the minimally invasive trend seen in recent years. We report the case of a patient in which ICP monitoring was based on the measurement of the diameter of the optic nerve sheath (DONS), a procedure that has shown a good correlation with the ICP, as well as a high specificity, sensitivity, and low cost.

Dengue is one of the main vector-borne diseases and has become a severe Public Health problem during the last decade, both in Mexico and worldwide. This report analyses two decades (1990-2011) of dengue in Mexico, based on reports published by the Ministry of Health. ⋯ Additionally, during the last decade, the increase in the incidence rate of dengue and dengue hemorrhagic fever has shifted towards a younger population and the disease outbreaks showed a longer duration throughout the year. We conclude that dengue is showing a changing pattern and the factors involved remain to be analyzed.

Mycetoma is one of the most frequent chronic subcutaneous infections in many tropical and subtropical regions. ⋯ Mycetoma is an under-diagnosed pathology representing a health problem in rural regions and must be attended with more interest by the health institutions.
