Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder whose etiology continues to be discussed, to the point that there are different hypotheses that seek to clarify it, in addition to the fact that, given its multifactorial nature, there are different risk factors associated with its development. As regards diagnosis, advances in molecule detection techniques at femtomolar scales have allowed to distinguish between healthy and diseased subjects at relatively early stages, although there is still much to be done. ⋯ Approval of this antibody as a disease-modifying treatment for Alzheimer's disease opens the door to continue using this type of treatments, but with different therapeutic targets, such as, for example, tau protein. Finally, given the population tendency towards longevity, conditions such as Alzheimer's disease are gaining epidemiological importance, which is why it is imperative to analyze and link what is being done in the social, familiar, clinical and research fields and, most importantly, to find those areas of opportunity for the benefit of the patient.

Pompe disease (PD) is a rare form of metabolic myopathy; the classic infantile presentation is severe, with death occurring before reaching one year of life, and the non-classical form is of slower progression and survival can exceed one year. ⋯ There was a good correlation between genotype and phenotype in children with Pompe disease.

Bioethics, as a reference framework for collective decision-making in plural societies, represents a valuable tool for the development, implementation and evaluation of public policies in order to address structural deficiencies and contexts of vulnerability that disproportionately affect certain sectors of the population. ⋯ Given the difficulty for reaching agreements or generating common understanding with regard to public health problems, bioethics contributes to a systematic approach to the challenges of the National Health System, for the safeguarding of the human rights of users, as well as of the integrity of its institutions.

The triglyceride/high-density lipoprotein (TG/HDL) index has been proposed as an indicator of cardiovascular risk. In Mexico, there is a study in young adults that relates it to insulin resistance, but no cutoff point that distinguishes subjects with metabolic syndrome has been defined. ⋯ TG/HDL index cutoff point ≥ 3.46 is suitable for identifying subjects with metabolic syndrome in the Mexican population.

Experiencing or being exposed to violence is called victimization; living it can generate repercussions on health, quality of life and life expectancy. ⋯ Victimization and polyvictimization were frequent in this sample of adolescents; the factors that were related to polyvictimization included symptoms of mental health problems, bullying and parental divorce/separation.
