Cushing's disease (CD) is the most common cause of endogenous Cushing's syndrome. Transsphenoidal surgery (TSS) is the first choice of treatment. Predicting prognosis after treatment can benefit further strategies of management, but currently there is no convenient predictor. This study aims to investigate characteristic changes after treatment and to identify potential prognostic predictors. ⋯ A larger decrease in BMI after treatment and lower DHEAS levels before treatment were noted for the patients who stayed in CD remission. Higher ACTH levels before treatment predicted a recurrence of CD. These are potentially simple and practical predictors of prognosis.

Postoperative acute lung injury (ALI) after liver transplantation is clinically relevant and common. The perioperative thoracic fluid indices changes as well as the association with ALI in liver transplantation have not been thoroughly investigated. ⋯ Recipients who did or did not develop ALI after liver transplantation had a longer mechanical ventilation duration and showed different patterns of perioperative thoracic fluid indices, especially in the pretransplant status of PVPI level. Knowledge of these perioperative changes may provide clinicians with helpful information to make postoperative care choices.

Langerhans cells (LCs) are antigen presenting cells. This study assessed the LC counts in oral epithelial dysplasia (OED) and their correlation to clinicopathological parameters. ⋯ The significant and gradual elevation in LC count from NOM through mild and moderate OED to severe OED lesions suggests an upregulation of immunosurveillance ability in OED patients during the early oral carcinogenesis process. A low LC count in OED lesions may suggest the partial loss of immunosurveillance ability against dysplastic cells; this in turn favors the malignant transformation of an OED lesion into oral cancer.
