Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the most common cancer in Taiwan, and is the third leading cause of cancer-related death. Screening has been proven the most effective way to reduce CRC mortality, and stool-based screening is currently the most popular method of screening worldwide. In 2004, Taiwanese government launched a nationwide screening program and fecal immunochemical test (FIT) is offered biennially to individuals aged 50 to 75. ⋯ Third, some individuals are non-compliant with FIT screening, and with the recommendation for colonoscopy after a positive FIT, which may be the result of insufficient awareness toward CRC and screening of the public. Fourth, long-lasting financial support for this program is necessary for its success. All of these problems need to be solved via collaboration between the screening organizer, screening distributor, and professional societies.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality in Taiwan. To help clinical physicians to manage patients with HCC, the Taiwan Liver Cancer Association and the Gastroenterological Society of Taiwan produced the management consensus guideline for HCC. ⋯ With the development of the management consensus guideline, HCC patients could benefit from the optimal therapeutic modality.

Oral leukoplakia (OL) is one of the clinically diagnosed oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) with an increased risk of oral cancer development. In this study, we investigated the malignant transformation of OL in Taiwanese population. ⋯ OL patients exhibited a significantly higher risk of malignant transformation than those without OL. In addition, both OSF and OLP could enhance malignant transformation in patients with OL. However, further studies are required to identify the histopathological and clinical parameters in the pathogenesis of malignant transformation among OPMDs.

The current status and unmet needs in the management of psoriatic arthritis: Viewpoint from physicians in Taiwan.
To analyze the real-world clinical practice for the treatment of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and to assess physicians' prescription, difficulties in diagnosis, therapeutic strategy, rationales for biologic therapies and unmet needs in Taiwan. ⋯ This survey showed the status quo in Taiwan of the clinical management for PsA including diagnostic difficulties, therapeutic consideration, rationales for biologic DMARDs selection and unmet needs in treatment. It has indicated that interdisciplinary collaboration may further improve the quality for PsA care. These results may help establish new strategy to develop next generation biologics.
