Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common chronic skin disease. Only relatively scant studies from Asian countries have attempted to quantify AD-associated healthcare utilization and costs by using population-based databases. This study aims to evaluate the AD-associated annual healthcare utilization and costs in Taiwan. ⋯ AD was found to impose significant healthcare costs, with estimated total cost burdens of NT$3.61 billion in 2017, which is 0.314% of Taiwan's national health expenditure and 0.020% of Taiwan's gross domestic product.

A widely used method of treating left-sided arrhythmia substrates in children is retrograde transaortic ablation under fluoroscopic guidance. However, the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of this approach under zero fluoroscopy (ZF) guidance, especially the mid-term safety of anatomy and function of aortic valves, have yet to be proven. ⋯ ZF-guided retrograde transaortic ablation of left-sided arrhythmia substrates proved safe in children at midterm follow-up, reducing radiation exposure significantly within a learning curve of <20 cases.

Ultrasound-guided core biopsy (USCB) is a minimally invasive sampling procedure which may help to confirm the diagnoses of the thyroid tumors with indeterminate results of ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (USFNA). Although with potential advantages, the working protocol of introducing USCB in the routine practice has not been established yet. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of USCB when it is included in the clinical workflow of assessing the thyroid tumors with indeterminate USFNA results after a long-term follow up. ⋯ The USCB is a cost-effective sampling procedure for confirming the diagnosis of indeterminate thyroid tumors and their clinical management, especially for those malignancies from extra-thyroid origins.

Controversies over the use of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) for detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) existed from guidelines. Using large-scale database and hospital-based information, we aimed to reappraise the role of AFP in HCC surveillance, including proportion of AFP elevation by stage of HCC, additional benefit of AFP in combination of ultrasonography (US) in the detection of early HCC, and survival in early HCC with high AFP levels. ⋯ This study suggested that AFP in combination with US would add an additional benefit as being a prompted role for detection of early HCC in patients with US-undetectable HCC.

Radium-223 is an alpha-emitting, bone-targeting radiopharmaceutical that confers a survival benefit in patients with confirmed bone-metastatic, castration-resistant prostate cancer with no visceral metastases. We studied real-world use of radium-223 in eligible patients from a tertiary hospital. ⋯ Radium-223 had early biochemical benefits, while in the later stages of the disease, it reduced bone pain in this real-world cohort of chemotherapy-naive, NAH-naive patients, and patients with prior therapy, from a tertiary institution in Taiwan.
