Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) was associated with a lower prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The impact of CHB on the link between NAFLD and type 2 diabetes (T2D) and related virological implications remain unclear. ⋯ The data showed that HBV interferes with fatty liver disease and modulates its related T2D risk, offering additional insight into the interplay between NAFLD and CHB.

2022 focused update of the 2017 Taiwan lipid guidelines for high risk patients: Coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease and ischemic stroke.
The previously published 2017 Taiwan Lipid Guidelines for High Risk Patients becomes the standard guidance of dyslipidemia management for patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in Taiwan. New clinical trials of lipid lowering therapy were published successively after 2017. The study results changed the treatment concept of ASCVD. ⋯ In this focused update of the 2017 guideline, the treatment targets of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) for patients with ASCVD were modified. The algorithm of LDL-C lowering therapy was revised. The recommendations in this focused update were made mainly based on the scientific evidence from recently published clinical trials and endorsed by the major medical societies in Taiwan.

The incidence of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) has increased rapidly in recent decades, with a favorable overall prognosis. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ultrasound (US)-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for treating low-risk PTMC in Taiwan. ⋯ Minimally invasive US-guided RFA is an effective and safe alternative for low-risk PTMC, resulting a satisfied VRR.

The Quick Mild Cognitive Impairment (Qmci) test has been suggested to be an easy-to-use and precise screening tool for detecting postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD). To provide essential information for future POCD studies in Taiwan, the present study provided data regarding the Taiwan version of the Qmci (Qmci-TW) test conducted in the normative Taiwanese population and changes in them over time. ⋯ The present study provided data regarding the Qmci-TW test conducted in the normative Taiwanese population and its time trajectory during the 6-month follow-up.

Postoperative venous thromboembolism is an important complication in Taiwan. We prospectively investigated the occurrence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) after major orthopedic surgery without pharmacologic thromboprophylaxis in a cohort of 120 patients (46 males, 74 females, median age 71 years) at our institute. ⋯ Nine out of 120 (7.5%) orthopedic patients without pharmacologic thromboprophylaxis developed postoperative sonographic DVT in our study. The DVT rate is consistent with other reports from various Asian countries and evidence from meta-analyses.
