There are no reported case series of common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) from southern Taiwan. A 20-year review was performed in adult CVID from a southern Taiwan medical center. Patients with ages of 18 years or older were enrolled from May, 2003 to April, 2023. ⋯ Patients with higher IgG trough levels (above 500 mg/dL) had a better survival than those with lower IgG trough levels. Adult CVID in southern Taiwan has a high occurrence of autoimmune and lymphoproliferative manifestations. Early diagnosis with IVIg infusion might improve the presentations.

Application of blood-based biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease in clinical practice: Recommendations from Taiwan Dementia Society.
Blood-based biomarkers (BBM) are potentially powerful tools that assist in the biological diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in vivo with minimal invasiveness, relatively low cost, and good accessibility. This review summarizes current evidence for using BBMs in AD, focusing on amyloid, tau, and biomarkers for neurodegeneration. Blood-based phosphorylated tau and the Aβ42/Aβ40 ratio showed consistent concordance with brain pathology measured by CSF or PET in the research setting. ⋯ Based on current evidence, the working group from the Taiwan Dementia Society (TDS) achieved consensus recommendations on the appropriate use of BBMs for AD in clinical practice. BBMs may assist clinical diagnosis and prognosis in AD subjects with cognitive symptoms; however, the results should be interpreted by dementia specialists and combining biochemical, neuropsychological, and neuroimaging information. Further studies are needed to evaluate BBMs' real-world performance and potential impact on clinical decision-making.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory follicular disease characterized by painful, recurrent, inflamed lesions most commonly occurring in the axillary, inguinal, and anogenital regions. HS can inflict immense physical and psychological impact on patients who suffer from this distressing disease. ⋯ In light of recent evidence supporting the effectiveness of biologic agents in the treatment of HS, the Taiwanese Dermatological Association established an expert panel of nine dermatologists to develop consensus statements aimed to provide up-to-date evidence-based guidance in optimizing HS patient management in Taiwan. The recommendations described in the statements were summarized in a management algorithm in terms of general care, topical treatment, systemic treatment, and procedural treatment.

Purpose: This study aimed to directly compare the utility of liver stiffness (LS) and spleen stiffness (SS) at sustained virologic response (SVR) for predicting hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and non-HCC events in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) after direct-acting antiviral therapy. ⋯ Post-SVR LS better predicts HCC risk. Post-SVR SS helps predict non-HCC risk after antiviral therapy for CHC. LS and SS at SVR provide complementary prognostic information regarding risks of HCC and non-HCC events in the post-SVR setting. Further validation is warranted in larger cohorts.
