The efficacy and safety of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) booster vaccines remain limited. We investigated the immunogenicity and adverse events of the third dose of mRNA vaccines in healthy adults. ⋯ Third dose mRNA COVID-19 vaccines markedly enhanced cellular and humoral responses and were safe. Immunological responses and adverse events were higher in individuals receiving the full-dose mRNA-1273 vaccine, followed by a half-dose mRNA-1273 vaccine and BNT-162b2 vaccine.

Mutations in the neurofilament light polypeptide gene (NEFL) are an uncommon cause of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT). The aim of this study is to elucidate the clinical characteristics and genetic spectrum of NEFL-related neuropathy in a Taiwanese CMT cohort. ⋯ NEFL mutations account for 1.8% (9/508) of the CMT patients in Taiwan. The present study delineates the clinical and genetic characteristics of NEFL-related neuropathy in Taiwan, and highlights that ulnar MNCV above 25 m/s and CNS involvement may serve as diagnostic clues for NEFL-related neuropathy.

The appropriate interval between heterologous prime adenoviral vectored vaccination and boost mRNA vaccination remains unclear. We recruited 100 adult participants to receive a prime adenoviral vectored vaccine (ChAdOx1, AstraZeneca) and a boost mRNA vaccine (mRNA-1273, Moderna) 12 weeks apart and checked their serum SARS-CoV-2 anti-spike IgG titers and neutralizing antibody titers against B.1.1.7 (alpha) and B.1.617.2 (delta) variants on the 28th day after the boost dose. ⋯ Adverse reactions after the boost dose were mild and transient. Our results support deploying viral vectored and mRNA vaccines in a flexible schedule with intervals from 8 to 12 weeks.

Osteoporotic fracture introduce enormous societal and economic burden, especially for long-term care residents (LTCRs). Although osteoporosis prevention for LTCRs is urgently needed, obstacles such as frail status and inconvenient hospital visits hurdled them from necessary examinations and diagnoses. We aimed to test 10 existing osteoporosis screening tools (OSTs), which can be easily used in institutions and serve as a prediction, for accurately determining the outcome of a Taiwan's National Health Insurance (NHI)-reimbursed anti-osteoporosis medications (AOMs) application for LTCRs. ⋯ FRAX-Major and OPERA have better prediction ability for LTCRs to acquire NHI-reimbursed AOMs. The validated fracture history and adjusted cut-off points could prominently increase the PPV during prediction.
