In our experience, adhesion after the primary CS is generally minimal or nonexistent. However, adhesion barriers users have experienced more febrile episodes that may require therapeutic antibiotics during the postcesarean period. We evaluated clinical efficacy of HA-CMC and ORC to prevent adhesion at secondary CS and the post-operative outcome at primary and secondary CS. ⋯ Use of anti-adhesion films during emergency cases and with a significantly higher risk of postcesarean fever which potentially means increased risk of surgical site infection. Therefore, we do not suggest routine application of anti-adhesion films during cesarean deliveries especially in emergency cesarean section or in a woman having labor before operation.

A heterozygous three-nucleotide (GAG) in-frame deletion in the TOR1A gene causes the rare disease, dystonia (DYT1), which typically presents as focal limb dystonia during adolescence, then spreads to other limbs. This study investigated the frequency and clinical features of DYT1 in a Taiwanese dystonia cohort. ⋯ Our findings revealed that DYT1 is rare in a Taiwanese dystonia cohort. The presentation of marked cervical dystonia could be the main feature of Asian patients with DYT1.

To compare the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) among patients receiving teicoplanin (TA) plus piperacillin/tazobactam (TZP) versus vancomycin (VAN) plus TZP. ⋯ Our study results showed that the risk of AKI were similar for patients receiving TA + TZP and VAN + TZP. However, low VAN and high TA dose may play a role in this finding. Further investigation on the association between AKI and TA + TZP is required.

Ventilation limitation has a significant adverse effects on cardiovascular function and tissue oxygenation during exercise in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). High flow nasal cannula (HFNC) improve ventilation by washing out the anatomical dead space and providing oxygen at constant concentration. This study aimed to examine the effects of HFNC on the exercise performance and hemodynamic status in COPD patients. ⋯ HFNC resulted in a significant decrease in CO2 production and increase in exercise duration. The application of HFNC may improve the efficiency of exercise training by allowing patients to sustain exercise for longer time.

The association between sex and diagnostic behavior of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and the effects of comorbid mental retardation (MR) and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), were explored. ⋯ The general concept of a higher incidence of ASD among males was noted in this study of a Taiwanese population, but disappeared in those with comorbid MR or ADHD, indicating unique vulnerabilities to MR/ADHD or under-identification of high-functioning females with ASD in childhood. Increasing the diagnostic sensitivity of ASD in those with comorbid ADHD is important due to a delayed diagnostic age in this group.
