There is limited evidence available regarding when the best time to extract impacted lower third molars (iLM3). Thus, the current study is aimed to examine the association between the age of patients during the time of extraction of their iLM3 and the sequelae of their adjacent second molar (LM2) in order to find a better time to remove iLM3. ⋯ The age of patients having iLM3 extracted was independently associated with various LM2 sequelae. We suggest that patients can have their iLM3 extracted in their college/university age (19-22-year-old) to minimize complications on the adjacent LM2.

Effective antiviral-therapy can reduce the risk of liver cirrhosis related hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C. Yet, the difference of hepatocellular carcinoma development in chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C patients with cirrhosis after effective antiviral therapy treatment is unknown. In this study, We comprehensive explored the difference among them. ⋯ Our findings identify that chronic hepatitis B patients were with a higher risk of hepatocellular carcinoma compared to chronic hepatitis C patients after achieving virological response. Special attention should be paid to those patients.

Among various dental lasers, the erbium-doped yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Er:YAG) laser has great potential for periodontal treatment including soft and hard tissue ablation with minimal thermal side effects under suitable energy densities and it has multiple effects on tissues for wound-healing benefits. In the present study, we sought to reveal the molecular mechanism underlying the impact of Er:YAG laser on PDL fibroblasts. ⋯ These findings indicated that Er:YAG laser may accelerate the regeneration process in periodontal tissues through enhancement of their proliferative and mobile activities. Additionally, the significance of galectin-7 in the Er:YAG laser-elicited benefits was demonstrated.

To update information about the internationally accepted standards and clinical recommendations for the detection and diagnosis of primary aldosteronism (PA). ⋯ With introduction of these new concepts to the clinicians, we expect better identification, management and treatment of PA patients.

This study aimed to clarify whether brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a biomarker for cognitive dysfunction in children with type 1 diabetes. ⋯ The children with type 1 diabetes had a lower serum BDNF level and poorer neurocognitive function than normal healthy children, especially those with GAD65-Ab positive diabetes. Poor glycemic control was correlated with worse cognitive performance.
