Although the general profile of oral biopsies from Asian children has been reported, it was still worth examining whether there were racial and geographic variations in the categories and incidence of pediatric oral lesions. This retrospective study mainly evaluated the categories and incidence of biopsied oral lesions in Taiwanese pediatric patients. ⋯ The mucous extravasation phenomenon, odontoma, or dentigerous cyst was the most common inflammatory and reactive, neoplastic, or cystic lesion, respectively, in pediatric patients. The relatively high incidence of inflammatory and reactive lesions in pediatric patients implies the importance of stringent oral hygiene in children. Most oral neoplastic lesions in pediatric patients are benign, and malignant oral tumors rarely occur in pediatric patients.

Comparative Study
Medical expenditure and family satisfaction between hospice and general care in terminal cancer patients in Taiwan.
As the number of terminal cancer patients increases, several care models have been adopted to provide better care quality and reduce medical expenditure. This study compared inpatient medical expenditure and family satisfaction in a hospice ward (HW) and general ward (GW) for terminal cancer patients in Taiwan. ⋯ For terminal cancer patients, hospice care can improve family satisfaction while reducing medical expenditure in Taiwan.

Severe sepsis and septic shock are life-threatening disorders. Integrating treatments into a bundle strategy has been proposed to facilitate timely resuscitation, but is difficult to implement. We implemented protocol-driven therapy for severe sepsis, and analyzed retrospectively the key process indicators of mortality in managing sepsis. ⋯ Protocol-driven therapy for sepsis was put into clinical practice. Early resuscitation and ICU bed availability were key process indicators in managing sepsis, to reduce mortality.

Review Case Reports
Combined pancreatic endocrine tumor and serous cystadenoma.
Pancreatic serous cystadenomas account for 1-2% of all exocrine pancreatic tumors, and endocrine tumors account for 1-2% of all pancreatic neoplasms. The combination of pancreatic serous cystadenoma and endocrine tumor is even rarer. Here, we report two cases of combined pancreatic serous adenoma and endocrine tumor. ⋯ Reviewing the literature, we found 15 similar cases that showed two different age distributions and clinical presentations. Careful examination of benign serous cystadenoma should be kept in mind during clinical practice, to rule out the possibility of combined malignant endocrine tumor. In addition, von Hippel-Lindau disease should also be suspected when a young adult presents with combination of pancreatic serous cystadenoma and endocrine tumor.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a major cause of mortality and morbidity in adult intensive care units. The relationship between the timing of ARDS onset and outcome is not well known. The objective of this study was to investigate the outcome of patients with late-onset ARDS during hospitalization. ⋯ Patients with late-onset ARDS are associated with poor prognosis and should be managed as high-risk patients.
