This study explores the utilization patterns of premium and nonpremium intraocular lenses (IOLs) under Taiwan's National Health Insurance, given the potential out-of-pocket expenses incurred by cataract surgery patients. ⋯ IOL selection is associated with both personal and institutional characteristics. These factors should be considered in public policy development aimed at regulating the IOL market within a universal health insurance framework.

Endoscopic remission is presently recognized as the standard therapeutic target in the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC). However, achieving histological remission is increasingly viewed as a pivotal objective. This study investigates the effects of attaining completely histological remission on the clinical outcomes for UC patients with a high disease burden who have already reached endoscopic remission. This is the inaugural study to concentrate on this specific patient demographic. ⋯ For moderate-to-severe, biologics-experienced UC patients in endoscopic remission, achieving completely histological remission is associated with a substantial reduction in flare-ups, suggesting its potential as a valuable therapeutic target.

Exacerbated gastrointestinal symptoms and long COVID in IBD patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection: A multi-center study from taiwan.
Limited studies have addressed the exacerbation of symptoms and long COVID in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients following non-severe COVID-19 infection, particularly with post-COVID-19 vaccination. We aim to investigate factors associated with exacerbated gastrointestinal symptoms (EGS) and long COVID in IBD patients with non-severe COVID-19, which is most common situation in daily practice. ⋯ Our study revealed that EGS and long COVID occurred in one third of IBD patients with non-severe COVID-19, even though most of them had received the standard plus booster vaccination. We identified associated factors for EGS and long COVID, emphasizing the importance of post-COVID-19 follow-up in IBD patients.

Whether pregnancy is associated with severe injuries from motor vehicle crashes (MVCs) remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the potential relationship between pregnancy and severity of injuries from MVCs. ⋯ Pregnant women victims, particularly those who were riding scooters involved in MVCs suffered from a higher risk of severe injury as compared to their non-pregnant counterparts. Our findings suggest that women should consider avoiding riding a scooter and must use restrictive devices during pregnancy, which would help reduce the severity of injuries sustained following an MVC.

Studies have associated the development of pulmonary leukemia with the activation of the complement system. However, the roles and mechanisms of complement system-related genes (CSRGs) in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) have not been investigated extensively. This study used The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)-AML and GSE37642 datasets. ⋯ M1 macrophage infiltration was significantly positively correlated with RAB3B expression. Sensitivity to 36 drugs differed significantly between risk groups. This study screened four CSRG-related biomarkers (MEOX2, IGFBP5, CH25H, and RAB3B) to provide a basis for predicting AML prognosis.
