Hyperlipidemia caused by a high-fat diet (HFD) has many adverse effects on the cardiovascular system, including vascular problems. In addition, a HFD also has significant adverse effects on bone health. ⋯ As a result of this study, it was determined that fasting or maintaining a HFD does not adversely affect bone-implant osteointegration or peri-implant new bone formation in the tibias of rats.

Myasthenia Gravis with Toxic Goiter: Challenges with Management in a Low-Resource Setting in Africa; Review of Literature and Case Report.
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an antibody-mediated autoimmune disease with the cardinal feature being exertional voluntary skeletal muscle weakness and fatigability. It can be an isolated finding or in association with other autoimmune conditions such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Graves' disease, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), or rheumatoid arthritis. Thymectomy is recommended for most patients with MG whose symptoms begin before the age of 60 years. ⋯ She subsequently had thymectomy and subtotal thyroidectomy with a satisfactory outcome. We highlight this case to show that MG with thymoma and goiter could coexist. Reports of such findings are infrequently reported in our environment.

Urinary tract infection (UTI) and enteritis are major causes of morbidity and mortality in children. A combined profiling of UTI and enteritis could be helpful since stool plays a major role in the etiopathogenesis of UTI. ⋯ Like in many healthcare institutions, Escherichia coli is the most common bacterial cause of UTI and enteritis in children at our facility. Second-generation fluoroquinolones remain effective against bacterial UTI and bacterial enteritis in children. Stool AMS surveillance could potentially be a surrogate strategy for urine AMS surveillance in children. Training and re-training on anti-microbial stewardship remain crucial in Nigeria.

The research to be conducted on human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-B27 in patients diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) in Diyarbakır between 2019-2021 is to contribute to the understanding of the prevalence and effect of this genetic marker in the local population. As a researcher working on HLA-B27 and AS, our focus is to research the following. HLA-B27 Prevalence: To determine the prevalence of HLA-B27 in patients diagnosed with AS during the specified period in Diyarbakır. This information can provide insight into the genetic factors associated with the disease in the local population. Disease Severity: Investigate the relationship between HLA-B27 positivity and severity of AS symptoms. To examine factors such as disease progression, pain levels, functional impairment, and quality of life in HLA-B27 positive patients compared to HLA-B27 negative patients. By Genetic Associations: To enable the discovery of potential genetic relationships between HLA-B27 and other genetic markers known to be associated with AS. To investigate whether there are any specific genetic variants associated with HLA-B27 that contribute to disease susceptibility or severity. Researchers: We recommend considering the following approaches to generate knowledge on this topic globally: Literature Review: Conducting a comprehensive review of the available scientific literature on HLA-B27 and AS. It is to describe relevant studies conducted globally and summarize their findings to provide a broader understanding of the subject. Collaboration and Data Sharing: To encourage cooperation with researchers from other regions or countries doing similar studies on HLA-B27 and ASs. By sharing our data and collaborating on analysis, we can improve the global perspective and generalizability of your findings. International Conferences and Journals: Presenting our research findings at international conferences focusing on rheumatology, genetics or related fields. To disseminate our findings globally is to submit your research articles to reputable journals specializing in AS or genetic studies. Online Platforms: Using online platforms such as Researchgate.net, academia.edu or social media networks to share our research findings, connect with other researchers in the field and participate in discussions on a global scale. By using these fields, it is possible to contribute to the global knowledge and understanding of the relationship between HLA-B27 and AS. It is also to obtain insights from studies carried out in other regions. ⋯ Our study is the first study covering the province of Diyarbakır in the Southeastern Anatolia Region, which we think will contribute to the literature in the evaluation of HLA-B27 positivity in AS patients. The prevalence of HLA-B27 in our region is higher than the prevalence in Turkey.

Perinatal asphyxia contributes significantly to neonatal morbidity and mortality. It occurs worldwide, and the Apgar score is the most widely used method of diagnosis. Recently, umbilical cord arterial pH has been reported as the most objective way to assess fetal acidosis at birth as it predicts the adverse outcome of perinatal asphyxia. It is imperative to establish the concordance between these two diagnostic methods to reinforce the practicality of the Apgar score as the preferred diagnostic tool for perinatal asphyxia in developing nations, such as Nigeria. ⋯ The prevalence of perinatal asphyxia by the two methods was high, and there was no significant difference between both methods of assessing perinatal asphyxia. Thus, the diagnosis of perinatal asphyxia can effectively be made using either the Apgar score or arterial cord blood pH, affirming the practicality and reliability of the Apgar score in resource-limited healthcare settings.
