Pyrethroid intoxication: A rare case report and literature review.
Synthetic pyrethroid cypermethrin is commonly used in agriculture, veterinary, and household insects management. It has been found to be a newer insectiside poisoning reported in Turkey. ⋯ Here we report a case of a 25-year-old woman presented with features of cypermethrin poisoning in intensive care unit. Management of acute rare poisoning is discussed in this case with literature review.

The aims of our study were to compare the histomorphological characteristics of carotid plaques and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), which are risk factors for ischemic stroke, in patients who underwent carotid endarterectomy for carotid artery stenosis. Moreover, we aimed to identify the structures that were histologically affected by symptomatic carotid plaques in cases with elevated HbA1c. ⋯ Increased HbA1c values seem to contribute to plaque instability through the formation of a thin fibrous cup. Thus, of the carotid artery plaque parameters including fibrous cup thickness, plaque rupture, lipid core, inflammation, intraplaque hemorrhage, thrombus, calcification, necrotic core, and neovascularization, fibrous cup thickness is the only histomorphological feature that affected by HbA1c.

Hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) is the risk factor for cardiovascular disease and stroke. However, the impacts on the genetic variation of methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) on plasma homocysteine levels in the Northeast Chinese population have not been studied. Therefore, this study was carried out to determine the relationship between HHcy and MTHFR gene variation, and whether it was influenced by age and sex of the population in Northeast China. ⋯ High plasma homocysteine levels were linked to the MTHFR gene mutation. In addition, plasma homocysteine levels increased significantly with age with male's homocysteine levels higher than that of females.

The aim of this in vitro study was to investigate the antimicrobial effects, nanohardness, and cytotoxicity of different glass-ionomer restorative materials in dentistry. ⋯ All materials tested showed low antimicrobial activity, and the antifungal activity of these materials was found to be lower than their antimicrobial activity. Only Argion showed non-cytotoxic effect. Beginning with the group with the highest nanohardness values and ending with the lowest, the groups are ranked in the following order: Fuji II LC capsule, EQUIA Forte, Argion, Fuji IX GP capsule, and Zirconomer.

Aim is to evaluate the antibacterial activity and physical properties of Biodentine containing chlorhexidine (CHX)/cetrimide (CT) mixtures at 24 h. ⋯ Since the incorporation of 5% CHX/CT to the Biodentine exhibited acceptable antibacterial activity without hampering compressive strength values at 24 h, this combination could be a promising alternative for eliminating the residual bacteria for indirect pulp-capping therapies.
