Intimate partner violence (IPV) has been a source of increasing concern to the government of nations as well as their citizens despite measures taken to reduce it. This is supported by recent data published by the World Health Organization and other development partners. In health care facilities, intimate partner violence in pregnancy has not been screened routinely. Community-based findings have been the source of most data informing policies for decisions. ⋯ Medical doctors should feel more open discussing issues around IPV with their clients during antenatal visits.

The handgrip strength assesses hand function in traumatic and non-traumatic upper extremity conditions. It is also a surrogate marker for other systemic diseases unrelated to the upper limb. Various reference values have been established in different world regions, with few studies in our population. ⋯ The handgrip strength in this study is less than that in western literature. Hence, test interpretation should reference the values from this study.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is widely used as the standard of care in evaluating macular and retinovascular diseases. However, the degree of OCT utilization is yet to be researched in a resource-limited country where wide gaps exist in access to healthcare. ⋯ Though OCT is the standard of care for managing retinovascular and macular diseases, this research quantifies the extent of its use in Nigeria and finds it to be low. A post-treatment OCT rate of 32% suggests that urgent steps are required to improve access to OCT for IVI patients.

Type 1 fascia graft tympanoplasty (T1FGT) is the mainstay surgical approach for the treatment of tympanic membrane perforations. The most widely used graft material is temporal muscle fascia, and graft take rates are reported differently. The methods to enhance graft take are still being investigated. Aim: The aim of our study was to investigate the effect of titanium-prepared platelet-rich fibrin (T-PRF) on graft take and hearing outcomes in T1FGT. ⋯ In the treatment of tympanic membrane perforations, T-PRF applied over the fascia graft was shown to increase graft take rates and decrease the probability of infection. Further studies with larger samples are needed to demonstrate the effects of PRF.

Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is an autosomal recessive disorder. Typical clinical manifestations are self-limiting attacks of recurrent fever, abdominal pain, arthralgia, and chest pain due to aseptic polyserositis. Renal involvement is common in FMF patients. Shear wave elastography (SWE) is a noninvasive method that provides the measurement of tissue stiffness. In this study, we aimed to show that SWE can be used as an adjunctive method for evaluating renal involvement in children with FMF. ⋯ SWE can be a noninvasive quantitative imaging method that can be used to evaluate kidney involvement by detecting changes in kidney stiffness in children with FMF.
