Nephronophthisis (NPHP) is a common pediatric cystic kidney disease, accounting for approximately 10% of end-stage renal failure cases in children. NPHP is primarily diagnosed through the identification of indel mutations and copy number variants (CNVs), and patients carrying NPHP1 mutations usually progress to renal failure at a mean age of 13 years old. However, the association between CNVs containing NPHP1 variations and the progression of NPHP-induced disease remains unclear. ⋯ The proband was in stage 4 of CKD while her brother had progressed to renal failure, probably due to more extensive heterozygous deletion of a 67.115 kbp fragment, which included LIMS3-LOC440895, LOC440895, GPAA1P1, ZBTB45P1, and LINC0112 genes. This report demonstrates that larger CNV deletions, including homozygous NPHP1, MALL, and MTLN mutations and heterozygous deletions, presumably accelerate disease progression. Therefore, early genetic diagnosis plays a crucial role in the intervention and prognosis of these patients.

Bone tissue engineering offers several advantages for repairing skeletal defects. In this study, we designed and fabricated a scaffold for bone tissue engineering in patients with horizontal alveolar defect. ⋯ The newly designed scaffold is a suitable treatment modality for bone tissue engineering.

Thyroid carcinomas are the most common malignant endocrine tumors, and various immunohistochemical markers are tested in routine practice to reduce diagnostic differences, as well as to elucidate carcinogenesis and detect malignancy. Disruption of basement membranes and the extracellular matrix is an important step in tumor carcinogenesis and progression. The claudin and matrix metalloproteinase families are also thought to be effective in this process. ⋯ These results indicate that claudin-1 and MMP-7 are important in the diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and carcinogenesis of follicular adenoma, follicular carcinoma, medullary carcinoma, papillary carcinoma, and single dominant nodules.

Manual dexterity is vital in nursing. Nurses need to carry out applications requiring manual dexterity in the quickest and most accurate way. However, gloves are also necessary during such applications as a precaution against infections. Therefore, manual dexterity and the effect of gloves on manual dexterity are essential subjects to be investigated in the nursing field. ⋯ Using latex gloves impacts the dominant-hand dexterity and assembly dexterity. Therefore, designing more ergonomic gloves, increasing nurses' habit of working with gloves already in school, and supporting the improvement of their manual dexterity with gloves are recommended.

Internet addiction has negative effects on adolescents. These range from psychological and social impediments to school absenteeism. ⋯ There is a rising prevalence of Internet addiction among secondary school adolescents. Younger adolescents tend to be more addicted to the Internet than their older counterparts. A small number of them had severe Internet addiction. A subpopulation of adolescents who were addicted to the Internet presents with depression and sleep disorders.
