Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common complication in pregnancy that occurs during the second half of pregnancy. In the majority of patients, medical nutritional therapy (MNT) alone is sufficient to achieve the glycemic goal. ⋯ Fasting glucose level is the most important predictor of the need for insulin therapy.

The prevalence of eating disorders and orthorexia nervosa has steadily increased and this situation may lead to severe physical, psychological, and social disorders. ⋯ Orthorexia nervosa is a common problem for university students studying in health-related departments. Interestingly, the orthorexic tendencies of girls and students studying in the Nutrition and Dietetics department were found to be lower in this study. It was determined that all students except the Nutrition and Dietetics department had orthorexia tendencies. More comprehensive studies are needed to better understand orthorexia nervosa and healthy lifestyle interaction.

The level of spousal involvement in antenatal care (ANC) is not what it should be. This is a concern because a number of preventable maternal and neonatal mortality or morbidity can be attributed to a lack of interest or participation in ANC by their spouses, which usually result in a delay in seeking healthcare and/or delay in reaching a healthcare facility. ⋯ Spousal involvement in ANC in this study was above average. Measures that can consolidate the identified predictors of good spousal involvement in ANC should be adopted.

The predictors of mortality among patients presenting with severe to critical disease in Nigeria are presently unknown. ⋯ These findings call for a more comprehensive approach to the control of non-communicable diseases, the allocation of sufficient resources for ICU care during outbreaks, an improvement in the quality of health care available to Nigerians, and further research into the relationship between obesity and COVID-19 in Nigerians.

Placental adhesion spectrum (PAS) is a disease in which the trophoblast invades the myometrium, and is a well-known high-risk condition associated with placental previa. ⋯ Despite placenta previa without PAS disorders, maternal hemorrhagic morbidity was significantly increased. Thus, our results highlight the need for resources for those women with evidence of placenta previa including a low-lying placenta, even if those women do not meet PAS disorder criteria. In addition, placenta previa without PAS disorder was not associated with critical maternal complications.
