Fetuin-A, hepatokine is responsible for instigating insulin resistance by inhibiting tyrosine kinase receptors. Our objective was to investigate the relationship of fetuin-A with dyslipidemia and insulin resistance in type-II diabetics of Pakistani population. ⋯ The study concludes that fetuin-A might be accountable for dyslipidemia and insulin resistance in type-II diabetes mellitus mellitus. So the high levels of Fetuin-A responsible for insulin resistance might alters endothelium and causes inflammation, vasoconstriction and thrombosis and ultimately atherosclerosis.

Malaria is an arthropod-borne infectious disease transmitted by the mosquito Anopheles and claims millions of lives globally every year. Reasons for failure to eradicate this disease are multifactorial. The seasonality of the malaria is principally determined by climatic factors conducive for breeding of the vector. We aimed to study the relationship between climatic variability and the seasonality of malaria over an eight-year duration. ⋯ There is a marked seasonal variation of malaria in Karachi, influenced by various environmental factors. Identification of the 'the concentrated period' of malaria can be helpful for policymakers to deploy malaria control interventions.

The aim of the present in-vitro study was to assess antimicrobial efficacy of 0.8% hyaluronic acid (HA) and 0.2% Chlorhexidine gluconate (CHX) against Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis). ⋯ In-vitro, 0.8% HA is more effective in reducing the P. gingivalis CFUs/ml compared with 0.2% CHX.

To investigate the clinical efficacy of uniportal thoracoscopic pulmonary lobectomy in the treatment of lung cancer. ⋯ Patients who receive uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic pulmonary lobectomy have milder trauma, which is beneficial to the lung functions and postoperative recovery. Moreover, the number of dissected lymph nodes in uniportal thoracoscopic pulmonary lobectomy is equivalent with that in triportal thoracoscopic pulmonary lobectomy. Hence it is worth clinical promotion.

Transient paralysis of facial nerve is seen to vary from 15 % to 66 % in post-parotid surgery. The objective of this study was to find out the complications in post-parotidectomy with regards to facial nerve dysfunction since it is a vital structure encountered in parotid surgeries. ⋯ The most prevalent benign parotid tumour in this study was pleomorphic adenoma. After performing parotid surgery, it was predicted that the rate of complications related to the facial nerve injury was reduced as compared to the previous studies.
