To explore the trend of medical call writing by doctors working in tertiary care hospitals. ⋯ In this study, the written medical calls of different specialties were evaluated using specifically designed six items instrument. Unfortunately, the content of medical calls assessed was found to be inadequate probably because medical call writing is not explicitly taught at under and postgraduate levels.

To evaluate the impact of haemorrhagic ascites on prognosis of patients with advance cirrhosis, this study was further aimed to assess the relationship between haemorrhagic ascites and advance cirrhosis and its effect on prognosis. ⋯ Haemorrhagic ascites impact overall survival with more mortality in comparison to non haemorrhagic ascites. Haemorrhagic ascites was an independent predictor of survival. Haemorrhagic ascites is possibly considered another predictor of survival among advance cirrhosis.

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in developed countries. This study has evaluated the frequency of the risk factors of NCDs and its awareness among students in a University in Saudi Arabia. ⋯ A high prevalence of risk factors for NCDs was found among students. Awareness programs about healthy lifestyle practices; periodic screening of school and college students at regular intervals with appropriate advice are warranted to control the rising epidemic of NCDs.

To evaluate health care related to medication regimens among institutionalized elders in Damanhour, Beheira Governate, Egypt. ⋯ Absence of proper medical care exposure for the elderly residents was reflected in their low medication adherence, adverse side effects and hospitalization. We suggest extension of the national medical insurance system to include larger number of elderly population. To monitor the care given concerning medication, a daily resident gerontological nurse needs to be assigned, visits by clinical pharmacists weekly or bi-weekly from the nearby governmental hospital can improve improper medication.

The aim of our study was to compare the success rates of suture selection, recovery times and pain associated with local wound infection and seton placement in patients undergoing cutting seton placement for complex anal fistula. ⋯ We conclude that a multi-stage tight seton placement with silk material can lead to satisfactory results by aiming to shorten the cutting time of silk seton.
