To determine the frequency of acne and other relevant side effects as well as the pattern of topical steroid and fairness cream use among patients presenting with steroid and fairness cream use at dermatology OPD in a tertiary care private hospital in Karachi. ⋯ In Karachi, both, men and women are equally obsessed with fair skin tone and use topical steroids and fairness cream. The use of corticosteroid or fairness cream-induced facial acne is alarmingly high among patients presenting in a dermatology clinic in Karachi.

Laparoscopic nephrectomy has been adopted by many centers in the last few decades. However, there are a few inherent challenges while adopting laparoscopic nephrectomy in a new unit. These include a significant learning curve required to adopt this modality. This study aimed to share the initial experience of adopting laparoscopic nephrectomy at our center. ⋯ In a newly developed urology center, laparoscopic nephrectomy can be a daunting task. Good teamwork among the surgical team members and careful selection of cases can result in satisfactory procedural outcomes.

Recurrent episodes of Portal Systemic Encephalopathy (PSE), poses a significant burden of illness on the patients and healthcare system. The objective of this study was to assess the recurrence of PSE in cirrhotic patients after index episode of PSE and to identify various risk factors associated with it. ⋯ Identification of risk factors during assessment can reduce the recurrence of PSE. We would recommend to validate result of our study on a large scale prospectively.

The effect of SARS-CoV-2 infection on the liver during pregnancy and the impact of SARS-COV-2-related liver injury during pregnancy on obstetric and neonatal outcomes are not yet clear. The aim of this study was to determine the clinical features of pregnant women at risk of liver injury and to investigate the effect of liver dysfunction on obstetric and perinatal outcomes. ⋯ Our study showed that pregnant patients with liver damage had worse inflammatory response than those without liver damage. Women with elevated liver enzymes tend to have severe disease, but obstetric and perinatal outcomes were similar between groups with and without liver damage.

To determine the efficacy of extracorporeal shock wave (ESW) combined with autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy on knee osteoarthritis (KOA) with meniscus injury in terms of pain relief, functional outcome and complications. ⋯ Compared with PRP or ESW treatment alone, ESW combined with PRP for KOA with meniscus injury can better alleviate pain, achieve faster functional recovery, and significantly reduce complications.
