Substantial change in climate over the years in South Asia is directly affecting the diet and health of the population. It is important to analyze the aftermath of this change and its impact on the thyroid status. In recent years, a complex interplay of the changing climate with the environmental, geographical and dietary factors has contributed to the continued prevalence of hypothyroidism in Pakistani women. ⋯ It also included WHO website and local news clips about the awareness campaigns on iodine deficiency over the past years. All studies conducted on females to diagnose hypothyroidism, with both positive and negative outcomes were included in this study. The factors contributing to hypothyroidism among the female population in Pakistan encompass the effects of climate change, both direct and indirect, topographical factor, indiscriminate use of hazardous pesticides, presence of chemical contaminants in food and water, and a lack of awareness among the public and healthcare professionals about the condition's symptoms and management.

This is a retrospective cohort analysis of diabetes and its associated factors from Electronic Medical Record (EMR) of 2020-2022 of Indus Hospital Health Network (IHHN), Korangi campus Karachi. ⋯ High blood pressure, obesity, increased creatinine, micro albuminurea, high LDL and Triglycerides were important risk factors for diabetes. This study reports a snap shot of the status of diabetes and associated risk-factors in the Pakistani population. This was the first time that a large data was extracted and analyzed from a healthcare institution in Pakistan, which would guide physicians and public health practitioners to take evidence-based decisions for prevention and management of diabetes.

This study investigates the dimensions of women's experiences during the COVID-19 lockdown in Pakistan, considering their historical vulnerability to natural disasters. ⋯ The COVID-19 lockdown in Pakistan led to adverse socioeconomic and health outcomes for women. These findings highlight the measures needed to address women's challenges amid pandemic impact.

To determine the frequency of A2 and A2B subgroups among blood groups A and AB in healthy donors. ⋯ Blood group A2 and A2B do exist in blood donors of Punjabi ethnicity. The knowledge of presence of these blood groups' phenotypes in our population can provide a better base for transfusion staff to do troubleshooting in compatibility testing and to avoid any rare but hazardous transfusion outcome.

The pre-analytical phase, encompassing all preparatory steps leading to the analytical process, represents a critical stage prone to laboratory errors. An assessment of the occurrence and categories of laboratory errors, specifically within the pre-analytical phase of laboratory procedures, can guide in taking timely actions for rectifying errors responsible for damage and loss of samples. This study aimed to assess the frequency and types of pre-analytical errors within a clinical laboratory at the Multan Institute of Kidney Diseases over two years. ⋯ The overall percentage of sample rejections in the laboratory was 0.67%. This study provided valuable insights into various reasons, and causes that require improvements to enhance the efficiency and quality of laboratory processes.
