Determination of hemoglobinopathies is significant for epidemiological studies. There is a need to identify burden of hemoglobinopathies at national level to lay down the foundation of appropriate screening and prevention programs. The present study aimed to evaluate the spectrum of hemoglobinopathies along with hematological and biochemical parameters in a tertiary care hospital. ⋯ Apparently, overall frequency is static however, results of this study are not applicable to general population due to sample bias. Moreover, true figures are difficult to identify due to high incidence of iron deficiency anemia that masks the diagnosis by conventional techniques. Molecular characterization by DNA analysis is the most reliable tool of diagnosis. However, this method is not widely available in our country due to lack of expertise and cost issues.

Transplant recipients are at a high risk of critical COVID-19 illness due to chronic immunosuppression and their underlying medical condition. Our objective was to study the COVID-19 related fears and adherence to infection control measures in solid organ transplant recipients during COVID-19 pandemic. ⋯ During the first wave of COVID-19 pandemic Solid Organ Transplant patients seemed well informed of COVID-19 infection and adhered to precautionary measures against the infections. About 78% of recipients reported that their health and quality of health care (61.1%) during this period remained the same while 3.4% reported of being infected or a contact history with COVID-19 patients.

To compare and analyze the clinical effects of ultrasound-guided percutaneous nephrolithotripsy and X-ray-guided percutaneous nephrolithotripsy in the treatment of complex renal calculi without hydronephrosis. ⋯ Ultrasound-guided percutaneous nephrolithotomy is a safe and effective treatment regimen, boasting various advantages such as real-time monitoring of the surgical process, more accurate and clear channel establishment, avoidance of large vessel injury, shortening of surgical time, alleviation of kidney injury and reduction of surgical complications, which is more advantageous for the treatment of complex renal calculi.

Treatment of pulmonary embolism varies according to the different clinical presentations. Pulmonary embolism response teams (PERT) might improve outcomes of pulmonary embolism with faster evaluation and increased usage of advanced treatment methods. In this study, the effects of PERT for the treatment of pulmonary embolism were investigated. ⋯ PERT might help early triage and treatment of patients with pulmonary embolism. Experienced specialists in this team might contribute to clinical recovery by performing advanced treatment methods and decreasing the risk of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension in the long term.

Chorioretinal diseases requiring the use of anti-vascular endothelial growth (anti-VEGF) injections often occur in both eyes simultaneously. This can necessitate injecting both eyes together rather than one eye at a time. The purpose of the study was to determine whether simultaneous bilateral intravitreal injections of anti-VEGF agents are safe when administered in an operation theatre setting. ⋯ Administration of simultaneous bilateral anti-VEGF injections was safe in our population.
