ReviewEvaluating Ease of Use and Patient Safety of Dasiglucagon Hypo Pal Autoinjector for the Management of Hypoglycemia.
Severe hypoglycemia is a medical emergency that must be treated promptly in order to prevent complications or death in a patient. Patients who have been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and treated with insulin have the potential to experience a severe hypoglycemia episode, or low blood sugar. When a patient is experiencing severe hypoglycemia, it is imperative for this patient to receive glucose quickly. However, patients who are experiencing low blood sugar may not be able to manage for themselves, take food or liquid orally or may be unconscious. Glucagon is a medication that reverses low blood sugar. Up until 2018, glucagon had to be reconstituted immediately before injection because of the medication's lack of stability after reconstitution. A medication recently approved for patients 6 years through adult is Dasiglucagon. This form of glucagon comes in a ready-to-administer, pre-filled syringe, making it easier for caretakers and bystanders to administer in an emergency situation due to the readiness of the medication. ⋯ The purpose of the paper is to evaluate literature that pertains to the ease of use and patient safety of dasiglucagon HypoPal autoinjector for the management of severe hypoglycemia.

ReviewHow is Patient Adherence Possible? A Novel Mechanistic Model of Adherence Based on Humanities.
Patient non-adherence is a major contemporary medical issue because of its consequences in terms of frequency, morbidity and mortality, and health care costs. This article aims to propose a mechanistic model of adherence based on the tenet that non-adherence is the default option, as long-term adherence in chronic diseases requires sustained effort. The real question becomes, how is patient adherence possible? By focusing on adherent patients, the paper explains the mental mechanisms of adherence using concepts largely drawn from humanities, philosophy of mind, and behavioral economics and presents the findings of empirical studies supporting these hypotheses. ⋯ The concepts presented in this article summarize 20 years of personal clinical and philosophical reflection on patient adherence. They are mainly illustrated by examples from diabetes care but can be applied to all chronic diseases. This novel model of adherence has major practical and ethical implications, explaining the importance of patient education and shared medical decision-making in chronic disease management.

Study of Adherence Level and the Relationship Between Treatment Adherence, and Superstitious Thinking Related to Health Issues Among Chronic Disease Patients in Southern Jordan: Cross-Sectional Study.
For disease management, numerous drugs are prescribed. However, long-term treatment adherence is still unsatisfactory. Culture influences beliefs regarding medication, particularly irrational ideas that affect treatment adherence. The Middle East, notably Jordan, is affected by a lack of awareness of these attitudes with regard to treatment adherence. ⋯ In conclusion, about half of the participants highly adhered. The results of the multiple-regression analysis indicate that superstition and education were two variables that impacted treatment adherence in this study. While superstitious beliefs lead to lower treatment adherence, education has the opposite effect. Finally, it is recommended to promote patient education to reduce superstitious beliefs, improve medication adherence.
