Barriers to Accessing Effective Treatment and Support for Menopausal Symptoms: A Qualitative Study Capturing the Behaviours, Beliefs and Experiences of Key Stakeholders.
Historically, menopausal symptoms have been hugely under-treated and under-reported, with many women struggling to manage intrusive, bothersome symptoms which can significantly affect quality of life. In the past couple of years, awareness of the impact of the menopause has risen in the public health agenda but many women are still not receiving adequate information and support. ⋯ There are barriers at each point in the management pathway: from women not feeling empowered to seek medical advice, to some women feeling their symptoms are dismissed by healthcare professionals (HCP); or HCPs not recognising some of the less common menopausal symptoms, not offering options for treatment, both hormonal and non-hormonal, or offering onward specialist referral for complex issues outside their expertise. There are multiple opportunities to address these gaps in knowledge, including the use of HCP education and culturally appropriate leaflets to reach a wider range of perimenopausal and menopausal women.

Factors Associated with Prevention of Metabolic Syndrome Among Middle-Aged Postmenopausal Korean Women: A Study Based on the Information, Motivation, Behavioral Skills (IMB) Model.
Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Middle-aged women, in particular, have been reported to have significantly increased cardiovascular disease rates after menopause; however, their adherence to health behaviors is lower than that of other populations. This study examined the factors associated with health behaviors for MetS prevention based on the Information-Motivation-Behavior skills model and described the relationships between the components of the model in middle-aged women. ⋯ Significant associations were found between knowledge, self-efficacy, and attitudes toward health behaviors for MetS prevention among middle-aged women. The results of this study suggest that it is essential for healthcare provider to consider the components of the Information-Motivation-Behavior skills model when developing interventions aimed at improving health behaviors for MetS prevention among middle-aged postmenopausal women.

The Medication Use Issues and Challenges of Mental Illness Exacerbation in Patients with Schizophrenia: A Qualitative Study in Thailand.
Patients with schizophrenia often experience mental illness exacerbations, which lead to frequent re-hospitalization. Non-adherence to medication is the main cause of relapses, despite many patients requiring lifelong treatment. Non-adherence consequences include higher re-admission and suicide rates, worse progression of mental illness, higher rates of violence by patients with mental illness, and increased use of emergency psychiatric services. This directly impacts the cost and workload of the mental healthcare system. This study aims to understand medication non-adherence among schizophrenia patients in Thailand based on the country's specific context. ⋯ This study explored the importance of medication adherence in patients with schizophrenia. Non-adherence to medication can worsen mental illness and create a vicious cycle that makes treatment more challenging. Substance abuse and psychological stress can also exacerbate this cycle. Mental health services should strive to improve medication adherence strategies and offer social support to prevent harmful behaviors and break the vicious cycle.
