Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a fatal complication in patients with connective tissue disease (CTD). ⋯ Patients with a partial response to the acute pulmonary vasodilator test with inhaled iloprost had a longer clinical deterioration-free period than non-responders.

In colorectal cancer (CRC), regional lymphadenectomy provides prognostic information and guides management. The current consensus states that at least 12 lymph nodes (LN) should be evaluated. The aims of this study were to identify whether the number of LN is a predictor for survival and recurrence, and to reveal the role of LN ratio (LNR) and perineural invasion (PNI) in predicting prognosis after curative resection of CRC. ⋯ An LN retrieval < 10 increased local and distant recurrence rates. LNR was an independent prognostic factor for survival in Stage III tumors. PNI was the only significant independent prognostic factor affecting disease-free survival in our patients.

It has been proposed that abnormal modulation of inflammatory response is involved in the physiopathology of idiopathic recurrent spontaneous abortion (iRSA). Factors that may participate in this process include the genetic background such as carrying specific polymorphisms of genes with functional effects. ⋯ Carrying allele IL1RN*2 had a strong association with iRSA in Mexican women. This polymorphism codifies for a low-function protein, which may allow for increased activity of IL-1 pro-inflammatory axis in iRSA.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can affect the lungs in different manners, with interstitial lung disease (ILD) as the most serious manifestation. Although lung and joint compromise could be thought to evolve in parallel, there are data suggesting the opposite. In this study, we evaluated the relationship between lung and joint involvement in RA ILD. ⋯ We only found a good correlation between ESR and ground glass score. It is possible that different pathways of the immune response mediate damage in lungs and joints.

The prevalence of gastric polyps varies around the world reflecting regional associations. We describe demographic features of patients with gastric polyp diagnosis treated between 1980 and 2016 at a referral center in Mexico City and analyzed trends of polyp subtype. ⋯ The 1400% change of FGP explains the increased prevalence of gastric polyps. Chronic treatment with proton pump inhibitors and Helicobacter pylori eradication are possible explanations.
