It has been proposed that abnormal modulation of inflammatory response is involved in the physiopathology of idiopathic recurrent spontaneous abortion (iRSA). Factors that may participate in this process include the genetic background such as carrying specific polymorphisms of genes with functional effects. ⋯ Carrying allele IL1RN*2 had a strong association with iRSA in Mexican women. This polymorphism codifies for a low-function protein, which may allow for increased activity of IL-1 pro-inflammatory axis in iRSA.

The prevalence of gastric polyps varies around the world reflecting regional associations. We describe demographic features of patients with gastric polyp diagnosis treated between 1980 and 2016 at a referral center in Mexico City and analyzed trends of polyp subtype. ⋯ The 1400% change of FGP explains the increased prevalence of gastric polyps. Chronic treatment with proton pump inhibitors and Helicobacter pylori eradication are possible explanations.

Retinal vasculopathy with cerebral leukodystrophy (RVCL) is an adult-onset, autosomal dominant disease involving microvessels of the brain and eye resulting in central nervous system degeneration with visual disturbances, stroke, motor impairment, and cognitive decline. Frameshift mutations at the C-terminus of TREX1 gene are the molecular cause of this disorder. ⋯ This is the figrst report of a large Mexican genealogy with RVCL, where the same TREX1 mutation causes a variation in organ involvement and clinical progression. The early identification and follow-up of individuals at risk may help provide insights into the basis for this variability in presentation.

Differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells into Schwann cell precursors could reverse established lesions and sequelae of medullary transection. ⋯ Schwann precursor cells had a greater effect on locomotive function than mesenchymal stem cells.

Mexico has seen an increase in cancer prevalence in its entire population as well as particular age ranges, predominantly the older segment. The most frequently reported pelvic cancers in Mexico are cervical, endometrial, bladder, prostate, rectum, and anal canal. ⋯ The toxicity of any of these treatment modalities may be manifested as intestinal injury, a significant problem that can compromise the response to treatment, the patient's nutritional state, quality of life, and survival. In this article, we will approach key aspects in nutrition as well as the epidemiological characteristics and toxicities in patients affected by these pelvic tumors.
