Meta-analysis to Implement Alpha-Synuclein in Extracellular Vesicles as a Potential Biomarker for Parkinsons Disease.
Background: In Parkinson's disease (PD), exosomes carry α-synuclein (α-syn), a fibrillar protein aggregates with potential value as a biomarker. Objective: Evidence on blood levels of exosomal α-syn in PD patients and controls was reviewed for their consistency. ⋯ The standardized mean difference (SMD) was 1.54 (0.18-2.90, CI95%, p < 0.01) and 1.53 (0.23-2.83, CI95%, p < 0.01), respectively. Conclusion: Our results suggest that exosomal α-syn concentrations could be a useful biomarker for PD.

Fentanyl and other New Psychoactive Synthetic Opioids. Challenges to Prevention and Treatment.
Synthetic opioids have played a significant role in the current opioid crisis in the United States (U. S.) and Canada and are a matter of concern worldwide. New psychoactive opioids (NPOs) are classified in the internationally recognized new psychoactive substances (NPSs) category. ⋯ We also provide essential information on non-medical fentanyl analogs and other synthetic opioids such as brorphine, etonitazene, and MT-45, used as adulterants in commonly misused drugs. This paper also summarizes the scarce literature on the use of NPOs in Mexico. It concludes with a brief review of the challenges to prevention and treatment posed by NPOs and some recommendations to face them.

Multivariate Prognostic Models for Patients with Stages I and Ii Colon Carcinoma: a Strobe-Compliant Retrospective Cohort Study.
Colorectal cancer is the most frequent gastrointestinal malignancy worldwide. The value of adjuvant treatment is controversial in Stages I and II. ⋯ These models are simple and readily available, and distinguish the risk and prognosis in patients with CC stages I and II; these models require cheaper processes than the use of more sophisticated molecular biology techniques. They may guide either the need for adjuvant therapy versus post-operative surveillance only, as well as aid in the design of clinical trials.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is common in critically ill patients. There is no specific pharmacological treatment for established severe AKI. Therefore, the conventional therapeutic strategy is limited to the use of kidney replacement therapy (KRT) to maintain homeostasis. ⋯ Hybrid therapies are increasingly being used due to their flexibility, which is determined by the combination of equipment, membranes, and available resources (machines and health-care personnel experience). The required technology is widely available in most intensive care units and uses low-cost consumables compared to other types of AKI treatment modalities, favoring its widespread use. Hybrid therapies are feasible and provide a viable form of KRT, either alone or as a transition therapy from continuous kidney replacement therapy to intermittent hemodialysis.
