Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is the most prevalent musculoskeletal pathologic manifestation of sickle cell disease (SCD) resulting in an osteonecrotic event. This review aimed to summarize mechanisms involved in pathophysiology of ONFH and treatment options available in Saudi Arabia to treat SCD patients with complication of osteonecrotic event. The pathophysiology of ONFH include genetic and micro particles involvement. ⋯ Initial treatment approach is pharmacological agents use to mitigate risk. Further, bone morphogenetic protein stimulation initiate bone formation and treatment can be improved with the use of bone morphogenetic protein, total hip arthroplasty and cell therapies. This review provides baseline information for future studies to be carried out in Saudi Arabia to improve treatment options in SCD patients with ONFH.

Children and adolescents are more susceptible to the formation of mental health issues, since their brains are still developing. The coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic response measures have disrupted daily life and left individuals socially isolated, including children and adolescents. ⋯ It is difficult to predict how the COVID-19 pandemic may affect children's and adolescents' mental health in the short- and long-term. To address the mental and social health needs of children and adolescents after the pandemic, it is urgently necessary to perform longitudinal and developmental studies and introduce evidence-centered action plans and interventions.

The role of intra-articular injection of autologous platelet-rich plasma versus corticosteroids in the treatment of synovitis in lumbar facet joint disease.
To compare the efficacy between platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and corticosteroids (CS) in improving magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-detected synovitis in correlation with clinical complaints among patients with lumbar facet joint (FJ) disease. ⋯ Both PRP and CS injections were effective in improving MRI-detected FJ synovitis while concurrently improving all examined parameters at follow-up after 3 months. However, PRP promoted better improvement in MRI-detected synovitis grade, suggesting that it may be a better treatment option for longer duration efficacy.TRN: NCT04860531- 1/3/2021.

To identify the most important research topics to establish a national research agenda and protocol for prehospital research in Saudi Arabia (KSA). ⋯ In this modified Delphi study, an expert panel identified the top prehospital emergency medical services (EMS) care research priorities. The leading research priorities included clinical and operational ideas. The proposed 32 high-priority topics can be used to guide researchers, research networks, policymakers, and funding organizations involved in EMS.

Heart muscle inflammations were reported following SARS-CoV-2 messenger ribonucleic acid (RNA) vaccination by the Disease Control Centers in America, and cases of these inflammations reported as adverse effects of this COVID-19 vaccine application increased 1000 times since April 2021. A male individual, 18-year-old received vaccination with mRNA-1273 vaccine, and after a while attended the Emergency Department at King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. ⋯ Although these vaccines are a must and very advantageous in fighting COVID-19 and their benefits are far beyond their risks, although it seems that there is a risk of myopericarditis cases. Under such conditions it is essential to rely on early diagnosis for control and deal with the possible cases of morbidity and mortality associated with these conditions.
