To evaluate the use of hysteroscopy in the assessment of uterine pathologies in infertile women with repeated implantation failure (RIF) after in vitro fertilization (IVF) and determine whether removal of such pathologies increased pregnancy rates in women with RIF. ⋯ A hysteroscopy was able to detect intrauterine pathologies which were missed by other investigative modalities. We believe patients with a history of RIF should undergo hysteroscopic examination before any further cycles are considered.

To determine the knowledge, attitudes, practices, and awareness for risk factors associated with cystic echinococcosis (CE) among animal breeders, nurses, nursing students, dietitians, food professionals and other public groups in Turkey. Methods: Questionnaire forms were prepared in compliance with the individuals' diversity, and a survey was created about agents, transmission modes, epidemiology, treatment, and risk factors for CE. The descriptive survey was performed between May 2015 and May 2016 by face-to-face communication. ⋯ Non-categorical variables were compared via Spearman's rho correlation analysis with statistical significance set at the 0.05 level. Results: We determined low awareness for vegetable washing, raw vegetables and offal consumption, informative courses, contact with dogs, and administration of antiparasitic drugs to dogs. Conclusion: The participants of this survey were found to be with insufficient knowledge regarding risk factors of CE. We advocate the implementation of training programs to improve public awareness on this important disease.

The effects of celery leaf (apium graveolens L.) treatment on blood glucose and insulin levels in elderly pre-diabetics.
To analyze the effect of celery leaf extract on blood glucose and plasma insulin levels in elderly pre-diabetics. Methods: This study was conducted between March and November 2014 at the Faculty of Medicine, Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh, Indonesia. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest with a control group was conducted with elderly pre-diabetic volunteers. ⋯ The treatment consisted of celery leaf extract capsules at the dose of 250 mg, 3 times per day (morning, afternoon and evening), 30 minutes before a meal, for 12 days. Data analysis was performed using the t-test (p less than 0.05). Results: There was a significant decrease in pre-prandial plasma glucose levels (p=0.01) and post-prandial plasma glucose levels (p=0.00), but no significant increase in plasma insulin levels (p=0.15) after celery leaf treatment in elderly pre-diabetics. Conclusion: Celery was effective at reducing blood glucose levels, but there was a lack of association between blood glucose levels and plasma insulin levels in elderly pre-diabetics.

To assess the changes in parameters of thyroid carcinoma, particularly papillary type, in the era of widespread use of sensitive diagnostic methods. We aim to investigate whether the increased frequency of thyroid cancer is true or resulted from over diagnosis. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of 313 cases of thyroid carcinoma diagnosed at Jordan University Hospital and King Hussein Cancer Center from 2007-2015. Papillary carcinoma accounted for 290 (92.7%) of all cases. ⋯ Most cases (52.4%) of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) were localized stage tumors. Group II of the study witnessed a more than doubled number of cases of PTC compared to group I, with increased frequency of tumors of all sizes as well as tumors of both localized and regional stages. Conclusions: Our observed trend cannot be totally explained by over diagnosis and increased diagnostic scrutiny. This increase could be of true nature and cannot be explained by single cause.

The role of non-invasive ventilation used immediately after planned extubation for adults with chronic respiratory disorders.
To estimate the benefits of non-invasive ventilation (NIV) used immediately after planned postextubation in patients with chronic respiratory disorders. ⋯ Non-invasive ventilation used immediately after planned extubation seems to be advantageous for decreasing the reintubation rate, VAP incidence, and ICU death rate in patients with chronic respiratory disease.
