Randomized Controlled Trial
Effects of different fresh gas flows on carboxyhemoglobin levels: non-invasive carbon monoxide monitoring: A randomized clinical trial.
To observe the effect of different fresh gas flows (FGF) on carboxyhemoglobin (COHb) levels non-invasively and continuously and to determine the contribution of the smoking status to intraoperative carbon monoxide (CO) accumulation and respiratory complications. ⋯ If the CO2 absorbent is properly preserved in patients who are administered LFA, there will be no risk of CO accumulation even in chronic smokers.ClinicalTrials.gov REG. No.: NCT04832256.

To find any correlation between the clinical response as per International Working Myeloma Group (IWMG) response criteria and the radiological response at the end of treatment. ⋯ Although we did not find a statistically significant correlation between the response versus metabolic activity and the number of bone/bone marrow lesions, however, our study was limited by the absence of clear criteria for defining disease response in PET/CT in MM patients. Further prospective analysis would be needed to establish a defined criterion.

To determine the level of awareness of medical law among healthcare practitioners and to identify factors that influence that level of awareness in Saudi Arabia. ⋯ Awareness of medical law among healthcare practitioners is limited in Saudi Arabia. Professional medico-legal education should be part of required competencies for undergraduate and postgraduate levels of medical education. Health care practitioners must be educated with laws and regulations of practicing health professions in the country.

To assess the effect of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection on erythropoiesis and red blood cells (RBC) surface markers by evaluating erythroid progenitor cells (CD [cluster of differentiation]71+/CD235a+) and RBC surface markers (CD235a and CD36), together with various hematological parameters. ⋯ Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 promoted the expansion of erythroid progenitors in the peripheral blood of COVID-19 patients. In addition, the expression of RBC surface markers was higher in COVID-19 patients. The expansion of erythroid progenitors and alteration of RBC surface markers can contribute to erythrocytopathies observed in severe COVID-19 patients and can therefore be used as prognostic factors.

To test the antidiabetic potential of Gardenia latifolia extract (GLE) in rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) induced by a high-fat diet (HFD) + streptozotocin (STZ). ⋯ Gardenia latifolia can be an ideal medicinal plant candidate for treating T2DM, and it should be investigated further for its therapeutic potential.
