Idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (INS) is the commonest type of nephrotic syndrome in children, and a majority of cases have favourable outcomes. A small proportion of INS cases progress to chronic kidney disease (CKD). We investigated the time to CKD and predictive risk factors associated with progression of CKD in these children. ⋯ The median renal survival time in our study was comparable to other studies. SRNS and the presence of hypertension at presentation were the main predictors for developing CKD in our population.

The educational environment (EE) reflects the quality of a residency programme and has an association with burnout. Studying the EE allows for interventions to target specific weaknesses. We aimed to measure the EE of an internal medicine residency programme in Singapore, compare the perceptions between genders, residency grades and levels of work experience, and identify specific areas of weaknesses for intervention in hopes of reducing residency burnout rates in Singapore. ⋯ Although our programme had a good EE, there were also areas of weaknesses revealed by specific questions, possibly contributing to burnout. We hope to implement interventions to these areas and subsequently assess for longitudinal changes in EE and burnout rates.

Hypertension and dyslipidaemia are major risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and achieving treatment goals mitigates such risks. This study determined demographic and medication-related factors associated with blood pressure (BP) goal attainment in patients with concomitant hypertension and dyslipidaemia. ⋯ BP treatment goals were attained by half of the patients with dyslipidaemia and hypertension, and half of those on pharmacotherapy. Type 2 diabetes mellitus and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol control were significantly associated with BP goal attainment.

Ovarian biomarkers have been shown to predict responses to controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) during in vitro fertilisation (IVF) in predominantly Caucasian populations, with limited studies performed in Southeast Asian women in Singapore. ⋯ AMH levels and AFC are equivalent in the prediction of both poor and excessive ovarian response in women undergoing IVF. Our study highlights the importance of establishing population-specific cut-off biomarker values so that protocols can be tailored to optimise IVF treatment.
